Lol im in a stable happy relationship now with no secrets but back in the day when i was "a player", i didnt need a smartphone to drop me in the poop. I had a terrible habit of texting the wrong person on my dumb Nokia and the text sending before i could rip the (removable) battery out. I remember that sick feeling where your heart seems to stop lol. My point is, cheats have always got caught out be it lipstick on your collar or a surveillance app and a player is never truly happy inside anyway. Honesty is healthy so why hide from it? (Sorry for the unusually ungeeky post lol) :D
 
I'm a deer lover and spend more time with animals and could care less about human relationships or marriage. i have nothing to worry about. even Google Now ignores me and only shows the weather lol! i doubt my dog or the one little deer 65 miles away knows how to use Latitude to track my position.

As they monitor everything, I am sure they are monitoring this. The question is really, it is worth the effort to destroy the little folk or are they more interested in screwing with more important folk. That said, I have not granted the feds the authority to stick their snouts into my life. They just assumed it and the sheep we call a populace allowed it.

most of you must be young and silly to not understand the full scope of things.. Too divulged into loving the geekyness of your cell apps to understand it all.

you see advertising companies pay for everything these days...what we search for on the net...where we go (from our cell phones) , who we text , the contents of our emails , and practically everything. As much as people like to feel like those things are secure....they really aren't. In fact a lot of the spyware these days are indirectly from advertising companies as well.

the more $ a person is worth...the more they pay for online information on them.

The mobile apps part is just a small piece of the pie.

If your really worried about what's installed on your phone, root and get titanium backup, itl show everything on your phone hidden or not. I use hide it pro for stuff like Facebook and kik messenger, just the basic social networking stuff I don't want my brother getting ahold of and messing things up but even those still appear on titanium

Yes and no. To accept constant surveillance easily is to give up all freedom. We can't get away from it but by god we don't have to lay back and take it quietly.

Titanium Backup can show you what's installed in Android the Android way. I can hide plenty of linuxey stuff ran from a command line...

Its not a love afair with our apps at all... most of us get that these "free" services provided by google, facebook and various other service providers are not free at all, the price to a large extent happens to be our privacy. the fact that around 50% of Americans say they are ok with the NSA surveillance kinda shows that people don't care about their privacy as long as they are safe and commodities are cheap.

how do you think google is selling their nexus lines or amazon is selling their kindles at or below cost? its the advertizing that keep them so cheap.

how would you like it if you had to pay a $30 a month subscription to use google search, google voice, google chat or any of the other services we get for free (including free services provided by MS, yahoo, amazon etc)?

Dont get me wrong I think we have a right to privacy and there are lines that should not be crossed. The moment google (or the government without a warrant) starts trying to use Xray or something to see into our houses, for instance is a line I would fight hard to keep.

This kind of stuff is in the news in the US pretty regularly...a new technology to look through walls and see what's on your computer screen or what you're doing or whatever, and the potential twisting of law that allows it to be used without a warrant, etc. Most recently the big to-do was about legislation to allow drones to be used domestically in all kinds of awful ways.

Look, im 37 and believe it or not, im far from silly. I dont mind advertisers paying for my ANONYMOUS data in exchange for a service.. and i much prefer targeted ads to lowest common denominator crap.
There seems to be a growing section of Alex Jones disciples with half a brain who enjoy being scared and who consider the people who arent scared to be stupid sheep. Im not a stupid sheep, im just a balanced thinker.
Scared people with half a brain are responsible for a lot of the horrors in this world but im not gona get political.
If you dont like the internet or smartphones.. why are you on a smartphone internet forum seeking approval? Sorry but it seems crazy to me. Like why do conspiracy theorists spend so much time online where their conversations can be so easily monitored? :beer:

Actually, you can still get those dumbphones like they sold years ago.
No data plan, just minutes, and even text is an optional add on.
I am sure that there are still ways to 'bug' those types of phones as well, with access to the right technology, but most of those types of apps ask for your permission, so unless your spouse has your phone when you don't know about it, you should be okay.
You know, I say this a lot lately, but if anyone I know wants to monitor my activities, they are going to become quickly bored and move on, so unless your life is akin to an international spy, or you regularly take part in some rather clandestine activities, your spouse (or whoever) will probably see that there is no point in this, and move on rather quickly.

He's just hiding his porno collection (unless he's revealed others stuff in his posts). I hardly think that should be called infidelity, he shouldn't be hiding this stuff but it's not like he's cheating on her imho.

How do you guys think targeted advertising works? Companys pay for information about your browsing habits, your location, who you know, where you shop etc.

facebook would be worth zero dollars if companies didnt buy this stuff.

Target, a retail store, follows what people buy and determines if they may be getting pregnant in the future, and sends out coupons for baby items to those customers. Not from buying obvious stuff either like diapers or something.

i accidentally ran across a website where I could buy 1 million americans names, address and phone numbers for about $15. I might try to dig it up, but I really wish it didnt exist in the first place.
 
Whether porn is or isnt cheating is different for each relationship and probably not for an android forum to speculate on lol (if it was id have devorced my wife by now but thats another thread lol. imo only lying about it is is cheating)

I'm not denying targeted advertising, not at all. The TS is just a bit of a paranoid fella.
 
I think everyone here knows how data mining and targeted advertising works lol. As i said, we arent stupid. The point is that WE DONT CARE. we accept it as a valid business model and we tap "i agree" with our eyes wide open :)

I work in Advertising, Marketing and Branding. Are you trying to tell me that advertising is the same as spying? The same as gathering personal data?

I have worked for some of the largest tech companies. Some of their names are mentioned in this forum often. VERY often. I have been charged with millions of dollars in advertising budget and overseen international advertising purchases. I have met with some of the largest advertisers in the world across all advertising mediums. And NEVER have I found out about an individual I was advertising to.

If you knew 1% about advertising you would know what CPM means. Look it up.
 
Yup :) some people dont understand that although their individual habits are valuable to advertisers, its just faceless information, its anonymous. i do enjoy these debates but is it just me or is this particular debate becoming more and more common lol? Why is that?

P.s. whats CPM mate? :)
