Oh and just checked my gps and it instantly connects. I'm also inside and it isn't the clearest of days.

I can't deal with the GPS not working on the phone. I adore it otherwise but I have to have the GPS working. Is it likely we will get a firmware update that will solve the problem or is it unlikely? I've heard some people say it is Samsung so it will not get fixed. I've heard others say a fix is on the way. What's the general consensus from those who have experience?
Also: Do all the Vibrants have GPS issues or could I just swap mine out for another?
For everyone who says their gps connects immediately, did you guys apply the xda fix, or just out of the box it worked?
Also, your gps may connect immediately, but is it finding your exact location down to like only a few meters, or is it like 200 meters off. I mean mine finds me, but it thinks i'm 2 blocks away or something.
I seriously doubt it is a hardware issue, and I doubt that phones manufactured around the same time are that vastly different, either the people who claim their gps is perfect are doing something different, or everyone who claims their gps is broken is doing something wrong.
no fix. works and dead on location. even in lpw signal area shows location dead on
btw, didn't you post in a different thread that you fixed your gps problem already?
Getting a replacement wont solve your problem. Galaxy is a world phone and they all have GPS issues not just vibrant. U replace it...u will get another with the same issue.
my vibrants manufactured date is about a week and a half ago. This bad boy is as recent as they come and still has GPS problems.

Yes, it could solve the problem. I've had two Vibrants and the GPS worked perfectly on both. I exchanged one of them because it was randomly turning off. The one I currently have finds my location within a few seconds and the GPS works flawlessly.
It couldn't hurt to do an exchange.

I'm in the same camp as those who are experiencing GPS problems (even after the "fix") and will wait for a software update instead of trying to exchange my device. Everything else is perfect on my phone. I NEED my GPS, but luckily I'm not doing any travelling for awhile so I can afford to wait for a bit.
If you look back at the thread you'll find my update. The gps worked for a day ange then stopped working completely yesterday. I mean it would not work at all. Oddly enough it is working today. I think I am going to try an exchange.
Its on your box
No it's not. That's the SHIP date.
Also, I just went in to T-Mobile to try a swap and see what happens. My first phone had a ship date of 7/10/10 and the new one is 7/06/10. I used to at least get one satellite with my original phone and this on gets nothing. My data reception has gone down a bit with this new phone too. I mean, I just got it today so maybe it's a fluke, but i'm seeing about -10 lower dBm and only 1asu right now... Frak.
On the plus side, their manager said he would give me a call if he heard any news or gets a new shipment of Vibrants in (apparently they got way too many in preparation for the 15th and have a whole stock room full of them still). I just don't want to end up with a $500 refurb if it comes to that... Hopefully the firmware fixes all that. SOON!
Oh, and FYI, there's a notice from T-Mo corporate or whatever not to replace any phones from people complaining about GPS issues. It sounds like they are certain it's nothing more than a firmware issue.
I have an update! I exchanged the phone.... AND... dum dum dum...
IT WORKS! PERFECTLY!
So here are two things I learned during the exchange:
#1 my phone in the computer system was still listed as a mytouch slide. The guy told me that would have created the wrong kind of info coming to my phone, specifically in GPS (maps) and internet.
#2 under accounts and sync, background data HAS to be enabled for GPS to work!
I exchanged my phone even after they changed the listing in the computer system. I just felt there was a problem with that phone. This one works great. So I encourage anyone with issues to check these two issues and exchange the phone if it isn't resolved.
Doesn't matter that the computer said mytouch slide. U don't even need a sim card to use GPS...all u need is GPS on and wiring on. Has nothing to do with what T-Mobile thinks your phone is.
I hope your GPS is really fixed after exchange..because now everyone is goingto read what you wrote and run to exchange the phone. I'm just saying this because in another thread one moment you were excited and said the xda. Fix resolved your issues..now u are back exchanging your phone. Update us n two hours if your new phone stops working.
If you would go back and look at that thread you would see that I posted back an update that the fix was only temporary. Even with the fix it was still not completely dead on accurate. This phone the GPS is dead on accurate. You could be right though, that it may not work tomorrow. Only time will tell. So I will post updates.
