Actually, I wanted to add, my GPS was not working AT ALL on my old phone before the fix I put on it. It was saying "Cannot find your location at this time" or something to that effect. This one is working without me changing any settings.

Doesn't matter that the computer said mytouch slide. U don't even need a sim card to use GPS...all u need is GPS on and wifi on. Has nothing to do with what T-Mobile thinks your phone is.

I hope your GPS is really fixed after exchange..because now everyone is goingto read what you wrote and run to exchange the phone. I'm just saying this because in another thread one moment you were excited and said the xda. Fix resolved your issues..now u are back exchanging your phone. Update us n two hours if your new phone stops working.

Agreed with you on the t-mobile setting. I've read many threads from different forums with similar GPS issue, and no one knows whether this is a firmware or it could very well be a QA/QC issue on the GPS hardware or the antena itself, who knows at the moment. But the fact is that up until now neither t-mob or Samsung has officially owned up to this issue should be sufficient for everyone to raise their alarm bell.

I would hope that everyone who has GPS problem (me included) will take their phone back and continue to exchange it until they get the phone that works as advertised.

Samsung has a history of dropping the ball on their customers, and I'm far from being a Samsung apologist and wouldn't hesitate to take my phone back as many time as required until I get the phone that I paid for. This for sure will get the attention of both T-mob & Samsung corporate to address this issue sooner than later.

I will say this, when they exchanged the phone for me today, they essentially returned the old phone and I purchased another one. So my receipt now has today's date on it. I am going to test it VERY HEAVILY this week. If I find that it isn't working exactly the way I need it to, I am returning it. I will not deal with any more issues. I've spent countless hours on the facebook sync issues and the GPS. I love the phone but I am not spending this much for something that doesn't work perfectly. I won't wait around to see if an update fixes it. It will either work for me now, or it's going back. I'll keep you all posted on the GPS on my new phone.

Yep ... no free pass for Sammy on this major issue. Heck, my long on the tooth G1 locks in more birds in less than 10 seconds. Do keep us posted at the first sign of GPS failure.

TIA

IMHO a simple Factory reset might do the trick, Worked fine for me.

Maybe I am over confidant but I truely think this is just a software issue..it will be fixed. If you return this phone what are your options:
1) iPhone with major antenna issue
2) evo with screen seperation
3) Droid x with vertical bands on the screen

No major recent smartphone has been released without some type of hitch. If the GPS problem is software based..then there is no major issue.

By the way what's the date on your new box.

Well, the date on MY box was 6-26-10. I really don't think it matters at all though as I very much doubt Samsung made any changes in 2 weeks to the phones hardware. I'm actually debating whether or not to exchange my phone right now. As someone said above, for the amount of money these phones cost it's definitely not too much for the consumer to ask that the features it comes with actually you know....work.

The only thing is, I bought mine for $250 at Costco with no contract. Lol, the guys working there might hold me down and take the phone back.;)

I know, there aren't really any good options. This is the phone I want, which is why I have put up with the issues so far, and why I exchanged it today instead of returning it. Honestly, I'd be leaning towards a Droid Incredible or a Nexus One if I had to get something else. Hopefully I won't have to put too much thought into it!

The date on my box is 7/09/10

I'm having the same issue with GPS. It's really annoying. My G1 never had problems keeping a GPS connections, locating me, or navigating me places correctly. I find the Vibrant to take a long time locating me accurately, on Navigation, the Vibrant becomes confusing and disoriented. I'm still in my 30 day window in Cali, I love the phone, but GPS/Compass issue needs to be fixed and FB/Twitter Syncing needs to get better!

My Vibrant swiftly locates me in my house (right down to the room) but will not locate the sat. outside when I request directions to a different location. Sound familiar to anyone?

Just a little 411 so u don't get screwed if you try returning your phone for good. Anytime you do a phone exchange at T-Mobile your new receipt always reflects the new exchange date or new purchase date...however your 14 day remorse period is still calculated off your contract agreement date. Meaning you didn't get an extra two weeks..they go off your contract date...not the phone receiept. If you return a phone on day 13 for a new phone..your receipt will reflect this new day..but your remorse prior is calculated off your contract...meaning you only have one more day to try out your new phone. Just a heads up so u don't get shocked if thy tell u you are locked into your contract already

If you haven't already, sign up for the extended warranty before the 14 days deadline if you're planning to keep the phone.

What I don't understand is how this phone locates me so well and rather quickly (with mobile assistance) but locks onto only 1 or 2 satellites. Perhaps the threshold for a lock is set too high?

So is the consensus that we should take back our phones and get new ones?

The fix worked for me but it doesn't work indoors anywhere, and it takes a few seconds when outside for it to work. I know my GF's also has GPS issues.

Any more info on this and pricing? Can't find it via google.

Why does everyone think the gps HAS TO CONNECT to all satellites it sees? Is that just what everybody wants? Connecting to one or two satellites is enough.

I wanted to update that I have driven extensively today with good results.

Can you download GPS Test from the android market, tell us how many satelites it detects, then tell us how many satellites it locks onto.

Also download a program that lets you take screen shots, and upload your screen shot of the GPS Test showing how many sattelites you are locked into.

I gotta see this to believe it, every carrier is having gps problems on the galaxy around the world, I just can't believe some phones would work and others wouldn't.

You mind doing those things above for us? Thanks.

Quick Edt:
Can you also turn off "use wireless networks," then go for a real world spin in your car, and tell us how it works now.

go to settings, location, and uncheck "use wireless networks." Maybe this might somehow change things.

Thank you, it would really help all of us to get down to the bottom of this GPS problem.

I believe it's $5.99/mo, just call t-mob CS (dial 611) and add this service to your phone. I have this service on all my smartphones, my previous G1 was replaced 4 times with no problem.

Here's the thread that discussed this topic in great details.

No dice for me. I did the factory reset last night and the gps still doesn't work good at all. It reminds me of a 15 year old Garmin I once had. I'm not impressed. The fact that Samsung let these go out of the factory like this at all makes me nervous as to what other large corners they may have cut.
