it takes 30s or 1 min to find my location outdoor
(I use only the GPS but not the wireless for location)

that's not the "problem" u guys talking about right? I think it is a good one.

just one question of the GPS problem,
if the problem exists, it cannot find yr location even turning both GPS and wireless on?
or just need to wait for minutes

I am also having problems....
after doing the first fix (the one where you add the google address for the server) it found my location fast. But it drifts. Sometimes it will say I am at my house, then start to drift and bounce my location everywhere.
The compass is also very slow responsive and inaccurate. This is a horrible fault and I hope it gets fixed. I don't care how great the screen is. If it doesn't have accurate GPS, I don't want it. Not going to return it yet. Had it for 3 days. My battery also lasts for less than 12 hours. Will still test it and play around some more. Tomorrow I will factory reset.
I also talked to our local tmobile store and he said he never heard anything about any of the mentioned problems with the vibrant. Lack of syncing, GPS, loosing bars... Probably just a cover up.

Cover up? Conspiracy theory? Why does everyone think t-mobile not hearing about this is a cover up. 99.9 percent of you are ranting on a forum, yet none of you takes 2 mins to dial 611 on your phone and report the problem to t-mobile techinical support. How is t-mobile suppose to know this is wide spread, if nobody calls in, instead people just rant all day on forums.

I've contacted t-mobile and samsung, you should too. I have no reason not to believe them, because 99.9 percent of you aren't notifying either company. Also telling your local t-mobile store doesn't cut it, you think the guy working their for min wage really cares, you need to let tech support know, they are the only ones who track and log this kinda stuff and work with the manufacturor to solve issues.

So again, take the freaking 2 mins people to call 611, report to tech support, then log onto samsung.com and contact samsung also.

Until then, there is no cover up, its just a lack of people reporting problems, so both companies assume everything is fine and dandy.

I bet 99.9 percent of you reading this will fail to still call and report your problem, and instead continue rant on here about how gps doesn't work and how samsung and t-mobile suck. Sure they might suck, but notify them, let them know it is wide spread, and give them a chance to fix the problem.

Any more info on this and pricing? Can't find it via google.

Why does everyone think the gps HAS TO CONNECT to all satellites it sees? Is that just what everybody wants? Connecting to one or two satellites is enough.

Actually it needs 3 to get an accurate location... It's called triangulation for a reason. :D

For my Captivate and my Wife's Vibrant, the problem isn't getting a location. That happens in a minute or so (slower than other phones but I can live with it). The problem is that the location is inaccurate a the GPS lose the location often.

Can you download GPS Test from the android market, tell us how many satelites it detects, then tell us how many satellites it locks onto.

Also download a program that lets you take screen shots, and upload your screen shot of the GPS Test showing how many sattelites you are locked into.

I gotta see this to believe it, every carrier is having gps problems on the galaxy around the world, I just can't believe some phones would work and others wouldn't.

You mind doing those things above for us? Thanks.

Quick Edt:
Can you also turn off "use wireless networks," then go for a real world spin in your car, and tell us how it works now.

go to settings, location, and uncheck "use wireless networks." Maybe this might somehow change things.

Thank you, it would really help all of us to get down to the bottom of this GPS problem.

I will do this as I am having no issues w GPS, Can you suggest a program for the screen shot.

If you haven't already, sign up for the extended warranty before the 14 days deadline if you're planning to keep the phone.

What extended warranty? I know you can add insurance but i dont know of an extended warranty. Deductable for this phone w/ insurance is $130.

Thanks for that screen shot. So wait i'm confused, you said you have no problems with your GPS? But then I only see 1 locked satellite out of 14 on your screen shot. Your GPS works fine with 1 locked satelite? I was under the impression you need more satelites than just 1 to get proper GPS-Navigation.

What program did you use to capture the screen shot?

edit: oh wait, i think i see your hand in the background, you took a pic of your phone, okay that works too.

Here is a pic of my GPS Test.
Doesn't get any better when I go outdoors.
Strange thing is, with zero satelites used this GPS Test says my accuracy is 73 ft, but when I go into google maps, it thinks my home location is in the middle of the freeway. It is way off, and jumps around like crazy.

Hey someone posted this in the Samsung Captivate (At&t) forum.

" OK I've finally got the gps to work every time all apps in under a minute lock - I have been testing all day and it works every time before reboot after reboot At&t Maps Google Indoors and Outdoors - you get the picture :p

Here are my settings:
do all the stuff that's been recommended Change to supl.google.com
Server Port: 7276
SUPL Secure Socket: Off

Operation Mode - Set to Network Provider <-- yes Network Provider
Hot Start GPS Plus: On
Dynamic: On
Accuracy:10
Use Skyhook: On

I really like this phone and returned my Iphone 4 and had my chest sticking out for a couple of days and simply melted when i learned of the GPS issues and thought of ALL the Sh_t Apple Sheep would talk - I ""KNOW" this is/could easily be the BEST phone on At&t so let's ALL Press Samsung to do the right thing - Until then I hope this helps.

Doesn't work on my wife's Vibrant or my Captivate...

FWIW, I have the GPS issue, and that is the version I have.

Im going to call TMo and see what they say. What is another baseband version that is available?

I think this version issue is not relevant, if you do a quick google search on different forums, you will see this is the version number on every vibrant that everyone who owns a vibrant has, there isn't a different version out there. I don't know why this person even brought this version issue up, I haven't been able to read anywhere that this is the reason we have gps problems. You need to also remember this GPS problem is not just on the vibrant. The samsung galaxy S is a world phone. Everyone from Asia to people in Germany and the UK, AT&t Captivate users and t-mobile vibrant users are having this problem. Trying to track down different versions and running to the store to do exchanges is not going to help. Especially when people purchasing their phones today with newer ship dates also are experiencing the problem. This is a global problem, not isolated.

However, you should still call 611 and let "Techinical support" know of the gps problem. Then please log onto samsung.com...go to support..then contact us...and call samsung or email them, and let them know of the gps problem.

I already called 611 and told them. Their response? The woman basically said "there arent any issues with it as its a new phone. Issues dont start getting reported until 2-3 months after release."

Well, after talking to her for a few minutes, she looked it up, and she confirmed tons of issues with the GPS. She also basically said that it is something that would eventually get fixed with an update.

All that is info you already know, but she said I was the 1st she had heard of any issues at all. So, everyone here needs to call 611 and report it. Apparently, they log the problem with every call and forward it to Samsung. The more reports Samsung gets, the faster the update will come out (hopefully).

What is the date on your box?

Hey, she said talk "nerdy" not dirty! :D
All kidding aside, I would be curious about that too. So far I've had no problem with my GPS and the barcode date is 7/1/10.

[edit:] The actual build date that came up when I registered the phone at the Samsung Website was 7/4/10.

Robo21 please test out your phone for us. Since you are having no problems, people like you are key in helping everyone else out.

Can you please go to settings, then location and security...then uncheck "use wireless networks." WIth this turned off, go for a spin in your car, and confirm the gps-navigation is still working.
Then can you download gps test from android market, and let us know how many satelites you are viewing versus how many are being locked/used. Take a pic of this screen or your phone and upload it for the rest of us.

I know some people thought there gps was working until they unchecked "use wireless networks" and navigation went dead. We wanna know if your phone gps works or is navigation just using your wireless network location to find you.

thanks

THANK YOU for calling 611 and reporting it, not enough people are doing this. It is not just important for t-mobile to know that the problem exists, they have to know that it exists for a majority of the people, otherwise it will sit on the backburner. Also techinical support works directly with samsung, so you have to report it to technical support!

You said the rep said a fix will be out? Was she talking outa her booty, or I wonder if a fix will deffinately be releases?

I am on vacation, hence the extensive driving. I will be glad to do these things when I get back.

When she said that, she seemed pretty confident as this isnt just an issue with the Vibrant, but the whole Galaxy S series.

Hey everyone, go back to the main threads... check out the www.galaxyshelp.com thread, I posted my conversation with samsung about 5 mins ago....
