My bad, the "An update to improve the Samsung Captivate's GPS performance is now available." lead me to believe the current update is what they were talking about.

Considering there is an entire thread of the people receiving the update, Im going to go ahead and assume its out now. I think the through the next few weeks part is a cushion for att to push it out if they are tiering how many go out at once.

yeah, im pretty sure this is all one update, they are saying that its being pushed out slowly. a very common practice. and the "next few weeks" is just a catch all in case there are any issues with the updates

EDIT: Reidic had the same thought as I

Does anyone know how to access the GPS setting in h7? Good ol' *#*#1472365#*#* doesn't seem to work anymore. I applied the XD Developers change a while back and I want to get back in and change it back to the factory settings. Guess I should have done that before the update :).

I read about this earlier today my concern for OTA updates for me is the root & the lag fix. The media scanning time fix they are advertising concerns me because the lag fix has something to do with the memory on the phone any way. I duno maybe it wont do anything maybe it will but I'll just have to find out...

GPS improvements could mean anything. A GPS fix means that if I'm outdoors with a view of the sky my GPS will find my location with a degree of accuracy.

I want a fix.

Well I got the OTA update today and went from no satellites sat inside my apartment to 5 satellites with 5 locked on, haven't tried it outside yet but to me that's pretty conclusive (if only anecdotal at the moment). The new quickoffice is nice as well :)

I had a pretty darn good track today driving to work after the update. GPS Status gives me accuracy of 5m... I think that is acceptably good for a cell phone, but don't really have a point of comparison.

Not to downplay the importance of fixing the GPS, but I've chosen to focus on the many positive aspects of my Captivate. No smartphone is perfect, especially the first generation.

Overall I've experienced stellar performance with mine, and far better than that of my iPhone 4. Now that's saying a lot for the Galaxy S.

If any rooted user with or without (honestly preferably with) the lag fix preformed please post how this update ran & runs on your phone. If there were any changes with the lag fix or if it is still the same. This update changes the media scan time which mostly deals with the SD card but still something to think about.

What settings are you using? My still doesnt lock on Google Maps even after update?

My phone is rooted but no lag fix. The OTA went without a hitch this morning. But I have not tested the phone extensively.

Well i am rooted(no lagfix) and it installed fine. I have been using it today some and it seems the same as before. The one exception is GPS which appears to be much improved :)

2 more hours until I can check again. Damn I should not have checked yesterday lol. I really hope this helps with the GPS!!!

Oh hi Marc!!

I want to say it again, after following the steps on xda developers forum for updating the Captivate firmware to the Europe i9000 ROM, my gps gets a lock in google maps in under a minute. Even if use lbstestmode to delete the gps data. Even while driving.

If I offer to help would someone who is experiencing problems with gps give the i9000 rom a try??
