Allergy sufferers

So after finally getting to the doctor, she has said I'm essentially allergic to my apartment!
She prescribed just a couple things (nasal spray, inhaler), but more importantly said I need to overhaul our bedroom: changing sheets, getting hypoallergenic covers, air purifier.

Anyway, looking to see who else is suffering from seasonal allergies and what their solutions are. :)

Yep, I got allergies. Pollen (from everything) and leaf mold, largely, so I generally avoid the outdoors when I can :D

Otherwise, I change our air filters often and take Zyrtec D pretty much daily.

Started taking Zyrtec. Was recommended to take it right before bed to avoid too much drowsiness. I hate the dry mouth though and end up downing a ton of water with it.

I'm a Claritin user....I take the normal stuff (without the decongestant) for preventative measures, then I use the Claritin-D for when stuff starts to get worse. :(
I also use a Neti-Pot when things get really bad...:(
Blah, allergies....hate 'em

+1 on the Neti-Pot or equivelant. My wife has to use it daily on Dr.s orders. She hates using it, but she can definitely feel the improvement now that she keeps to a routine.

I'm lucky that my allergies rarely rise above annoyance.

Loratadine or cetirizine occasionally.
The occasions? Fresh strawberries (those micro hairs on the outside can do the trick), soap residu, ve tsin (monosodium glutamate) and household dust now and then.
Results? Itching everywhere and swollen skin.

I take Allegra (80mg I think) and sudafed 240mg daily. I'm allergic to about 75% of everything outside. I'm allergic to 90% of all grasses. I have eye drops and nose sprays also. I hate summer lol.

a teaspoon of local honey everyday for seasonal allergy' works very well!

also I have a Himalayan salt rock candle holder that works great on allergies as well as other things...Supposed to be very good for asthma too!

PS:p
I'm not some uber nature nugget that doesn't use conventional western medicine at all!!..I just know that it works!

And So many doctors are so quick to start people on the asthma and allergy shots and med bandwagon..when it is totally unnecessary..Local Honey works just as well...if not better!

I'm pretty sure no one here is a doctor (;)), but what's ya'lls take on Claritin vs. Zyrtec?
My prescrip Flonase has been nice although it smells like blah! :p

I've bounced between those (and recently the Nasacort OTC); they all seem to work well, but it seems like their effectiveness varies season to season for me. I just change it up if I start to feel like the current regimen isn't doing enough to keep things in check.

my allergies.. are really bad the last 4 months. crazy bad. never been like this before.
lungs are so clogged up.

mornings suck... coughing up mucus. (no not a smoker)
I have to take Clariton every night now.. so I can breath/sleep.

Dan, I wish I could say I was a smoker cause then I'd have a cause I could pin point! :o
When I first moved to DC, that fall I started having allergy related symptoms in which I've never experienced before. My wife told me "It's allergies!!! you need to take medicine!"; I humbly said, "I don't have seasonal allergies".
Whelp, guess I'm in the club now.

I take Allegra myself since Claritin didn't work that well and Zyrtec made me too drowsy. Combine that with an Albuterol inhaler and Zaditor eye drops and I'm good to combat most allergies.

Albuterol inhaler .. my doctor prescribed that.. but I could not find any pharmacy that has it.. they said it was discontinued for a few years. I had to get the brand name $50!!!

where are you getting yours??

went through that several years ago...for me it was a big waste of time, energy, and money...didn't do squat for me.:(

Unless there's published data (with a solid study design) for a treatment, I personally don't use it ;)

I know the meds work, so that's what I'll reach for

My allergies actually haven't been too bad since I've moved up here

no more antihistamine pills. I took xyzal pills and advair. She moved me to Dulera and Dymista. Works for me so far. :)
