Help Allshare (DLNA)

I am not 100% sure about this, so correct my if I'm wrong, but my understanding of streaming is that the hardware that will be playing the video has to be able to play videos in that format. An example being the PS3, this will not play mkv from it's own hard drive so you can not stream them natively to it from any hardware. It will play 1080p mp4 which I have successfully streamed from my galaxy s2 to it.

The alternative is to convert the media on the fly when streaming, this is done using software such as TVersity, but this is a completely different matter and not related to this topic.

To stream to the desired hardware (say ps3) from the Galaxy s2, first enable wifi and connect to your network, then start AllShare app. Then on the desired hardware (ps3) if it hasn't connected to the galaxy s2 try searching for media servers.

Hope this helps

I am sorry, but the correction will have to be made. TVersity is currently the favourite for me - although I have only tested 3-4 softwares for PC - Xbox 360/PS3 streaming. Only recently got the SGS2 and the possibilities seems endless.

What I'm getting at is:
1. Transcoding is a handy feature in TVersity, which (obviously) transcodes the media before streaming it, so that the device can receive ANY file that can be played by your TVersity.

2. I have recently found iMedia which conected to my xbox instantly, (all being on the same network obviously.) I see on the Market list, Air Play and ArkMC Media Center... both suggesting they support Xbox 360 streaming -

I have tested iMedia (free), but none of the rest - a quick review - iMedia includes TV channels and video sites like vimeo and youtube, all available on your Xbox 360 for possibly the first time?! (I have tried getting youtube through Tversity and others, but my xbox doesn't like it) - Excellent app in my opinion... I have had it for like an hour so no glitches/crashes to report :)

By the way, there are free and trial versions of all the listed apps.

I've used this to stream to my Samsung 3d tv works well (not sure about which formats it supports yet).

I've also streamed media from my dlink NAS running minidlna to watch xvids, however the samsung says that mkv are not supported which is a bit annoying. Anyone managed to stream mkv to their phone?

Try a media centre that can play mkv on PC and provides transcoding, check on the websites for details or the post above ^^^

I use the Allshare app to play movies off my netgear stora. Its pretty good but it doesnt play mkvs and struggles with some avi's. I wish it had an option to use a 3rd party video player. I have tried other media sharing apps but not found any that work.
I will try some listed above thanks.

What I would like to know is why when you list all the files it only shows a certain amount.
As in ~ The video files shown are only one's taken using the default Camera App.
I can't find a way to display then send say a movie file I have copied onto the phone.

On my Tab it displays other video files, so why is it the SGSII does not?

If you use the Allshare app, then you only see the vids taken by the phone.

If you browes with My files to a folder with other vids, the menu will have a share function with an Allshare option (along with BT, gmail etc, etc) Here you can hook of the files/vids you want to Allshare.

However, I have only been able to Allshare photos to my Sony DNLA TV. Haven't looked into it, but proballly a vid format problem I would imagine

At this stage it does not matter whether the files are going to a TV or PC, it is what is not being displayed on the phone using Allshare I am questioning.

I made it perfectly clear... I have video files on the SGS2 that are not being shown in the list using Allshare.
Again Allshare is only displaying video files taken using the phones camera.
It should be able to list other video files as well, just as on my Tab.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, but not always. It depends on the format of the video. I've had success with h-264/.mkv rips re-encs of DVDs (using handbrake) but it is is a bit hit and miss.

ahh ignore me, that was playing from the laptop to the TV. Although the phone is happy to play the files too.

I couldn't get my Samsung laptop to recognize my galaxy s3, it recognized nearly every bloody device in my office but not my device that had All share running on it. Verizon recommended re installing all share on my phone but it only offered the disable button. I disabled now it doesn't offer an enable button. anyone know how to turn it back on? I would have thought communication between two same manufactured new devices would be easier.
