Root Ally sound problem?

Ok so i'm on my second rooted ally, the first one about 2 days after I rooted had problems, the symptoms are... No sound when i press the touch screen number pad, no sound when viewing youtube videos, callers cant hear me and i cant hear them unless they are on speaker phone. I got the original phone replaced and am on my second which was rooted and used trident 3... My question is... is this a common problem? anyone else have or had it? is this a result of rooting? or just having a crappy phone?

There is a setting for sounds on button clicks. Its turned off by default on custom roms most of the time. Also, make sure you turn up the volume with the volume rocker while you are in youtube/ in call and such. There are separate volume levels for "in call volume" "media volume" and "ringer volume" according to where u are on the phone

The only issue I have had with sound on the Ally is that, being open all the time, the headphone jack sometimes gets some dirt in the contacts, and I will lose the ability to hear music through the speaker. To fix it I blow out the jack with compressed air, then put a drop of Caig De-Oxit on my headphone plug and work the cleaner into the jack a few times. Then remove the plug, and it is usually good to go.

I had to send back my original phone when it got stuck in a bootloop due to me being an idiot and removing something I shouldn't'a. Right out of the box, the refurb they sent me, the sound from the external speaker was like about half as loud as my original one, with all the volume settings all the way up, as well as sounds coming through the headphone jack. Annoying, but I could live with it. It almost sounded like it lost a channel somewhere somehow; i'd get sound in both ears, but if there were stereo effects i'd only get one side. Anywho, about a week after I got the refurb, I was having issues with the usb/charging port, where it kept telling me that the battery was too hot and it would shut the phone down. If you tried to start it back up, as soon as the home screen came up it would have the same message, and the phone would shut down again. The only way I could get the phone to work was to leave it plugged in all the time, though there was a ? in the battery status icon and the lock screen would tell me to plug in the charger. I'm also pretty sure they didn't clean it somehow, when I got Facebook notifications, it would play All Apologies by Nirvana, and I never put that on there myself. I took it back and the sent me another refurb, but this one's working fine so far.

So, to make a short story long, it's a good possibility that you got a crap refurb if the fixes the other people told you about aren't working for you. If that's the case, you can try to send it back again if it's still under warranty, but as it isn't a critical issue I don't know what they'd tell you to do.

i really would like to send it back... ive installed the original unrooted rom... but have determined its impossible to install original recovery on this.. think they'd notice? or give me any greif about it?

I'll bet when they get a phone back for refurbishment (or the scrap heap if it doesn't pass) they might nuke the thing and flash their own software back onto it before they even try to test it. Especially knowing there are so many options for users to explore.
