Root Almost Ready to ROM-ble

Sorry for the title, just a play on Boxing's Michael Buffer. ;-)

After looking at examples of what certain ROMs look like on YouTube, etc. I believe a non-sense ROM will be used in my first flash. I like eye-candy but, I like my screen real estate more. I'd also like to see battery life improved a little bit too. Nothing against Sense, I haven't had any speed issues with it.

Depending if all goes well I want this ROM to be my one and only flash until whatever replaces 2.3. That means stability :) In terms of consistent, real world use what non-sense 2.3 ROM do you guy recommend? Thanks!

Gingervillain gets my vote.

It will never be your only flash though (so dillusional ;))

These 2.3 roms will get better and better. You'll be flashing til Christmas

Oxygen is the best but the video camera doesn't record at 720p yet (which, lets be honest, is no bad thing)

It's VERY bare-bones, though, and isn't to my taste at all

Gingervillain or Oxygen until Defrost is updated to 2.3...

Once you flash your first ROM, you'll want to flash as many as you possibly can - I flashed around 10 in my first week :p Settled with Defrost back then too, though it was version 1.8 or something ^_^

DefroST 6.1, great battery life with VorkKernel, stable (just make sure you wipe everything first), and very responsive.

Out of interest, why so you feel its the best?

Not tried it myself tbh

Still on the fence a little so I have a couple more questions. :)

I've decided it doesn't have to be a 2.3 ROM, unless there is a 2.3 ROM out there that is really stable and fully functional. Main desire (no pun intended); I'd like something that uses less memory and has better battery life; I'm not seeking miracles, just something realistic. Maybe I am somewhat delusional as DanFrance suggested (heheh) but I really don't want to be flashing the phone too much. It would be like trying every linux distro out there on my computer which to me is unreasonable.

What say you?

I stick by my original post.

If you want a great, stable froyo ROM though, go for Defrost 6.1.

Yeah if you dont want to be flashing, defrost is about as good as it can be. There are no more updates now.

I would say get 6.1 though, not 6.1a
