Root Alternative Rooting Method

Ok, the story is my home was broken into a short time back, and they got all of our pc's & laptops (besides other items). It'll be a minute or two before I can replace the systems because other things have to be replaced first.
The thing is, I now want to root my EVO, but don't know anyone personally I want to use their pc because of on line habits (let's just say I know that most of their systems are infected with one thing or another). So my only other option is a public computer. My question is, is that advisable or workable? Also, are there any one step root methods for this phone where you just install it, and it roots automatically? I know some phones have them, or at least, use to a year or two ago.

I think for this phone the only way to root is what is described in the sticky. Personally, Id rather take a chance on using a friends system where I would be uninterrupted than a public area where I could be asked to leave half-way thru the process.

There is an EXCELLENT sticky/guide with an awesome video on how to root. Its not hard but does take 3o mins or so. I watched the video twice before my attempt.

I had the Triumph and hoped for a 'one-click' solution as in rooting the Triumph - there isnt one.

Personally, I rooted just for Google Now - it was worth it :) I went with the 'midnightrom' and so kept all the features of the original rom (3D camera) etc but without the bloatware from VM.

Good luck!

Yeah I doubt that you can do it on a public computer, most won't allow you to install or run applications and scripts. Your phone won't "catch" anything from your friends pc. The Triumph was special in this regard, it was practically factory rooted.

I am sure if something was transferred to my phone, it would probably not affect its performance. My worry is that once I get my pc back, something will be transferred to it from the phone, which I know can happen. But you have to understand my friends. I know 2 right now that have had their computers for a year or so, and have never downloaded any type of anti-virus software, but yet continue to go to sites that are known for trouble. Then, they come to me for help. And some of my other friends love to look at the girls nude, download that type of crap, and especially go to websites looking up song lyrics.
All in all, we're friends and all, but I do not text, email or chat with any of them. I'm not about to hook any electronic device of mine to theirs. I guess I'll just wait until I replace my pc.
Thanks to all for the advice/help.
