Alternative to ASTRO File Manager

How about not using that app at all?

Hey, I can't afford a Ferrari because the local government asks too much tax on cars and fuel. According to you, I thus should steal one. It's Ferrari that suffers, or in the case of software it's the developer you steal from. It's not their fault you can't buy it...

Here's something to consider: hop over to the Netherlands (or Germany, or France, or the UK depending where you live - one of those countries is nearby!), buy a €10 prepaid SIMcard there from Vodafone and use that to get to the market when you want to buy apps. Use wifi when you do that for the cheapest option. It really is not that difficult to solve!

Or... root your phone and install a utility that lets your phone be recognized as one from a country where the paid market *is* available.

Stealing the app is not the right path to go. Talk to google - they are responsible for not getting paid market up and running in Belgium. Read more about it here.

Yeah, I then have to pay fuel or whatever transport costs there are...
Btw, your example about the ferrari is different, it is available for you to buy, paid apps aren't available for me at all.

I'd rather not root my phone.

And would you rather use a free app while there is a full app available with more tools?

And to those who I might have "attacked", it wasn't my intention, if you did feel attacked, I'm sorry. :(

Funny how this works...I've been using Astro for a long time and like it, and, I don't mind one small line of ads.

But, I tried out EStrongs, and I really like it!

I'm with Blackvyper regarding Filego. After the dev was late releasing an updated beta for Astro (causing mine to expire), I found (and LOVE) Filego. I don't use Dropbox, but I think it'll be a helpful app as I use Homepipe and having the ability to drag and drop is nice.

Several friends who live in countries without full Market access have emailed the developer directly, and had APKs of the Apps emailed to them after they paid for them.

The joy of being about to install outside the market means you can find alternative ways to get the apps you have to have. Besides stealing them.

Didn't knew that, thanks for the heads-up

So does Estrongs Explorer allow you to copy and move files? I was going to try Linda but it looks like you can't move a file based on a comment I read??

There's a Pro version of ASTRO available for $2.99 in Android Market now that removes the ads (it's actually a key file that you install in addition to the free version)

Bought.

Yes it does, via Cut/Copy and Paste.

Just to clarify... you can actually MOVE a file though? I don't want to COPY I want to MOVE. One of the complaints of another app was that you couldn't MOVE a file. I assume in this one COPY is also an option but I want to clarify that in addition to COPY there's also a MOVE option.

Yes.

Cut = move, Copy = copy.

BTW, it's a free app, so it's easy to download and try it yourself if you don't believe me :)

No, I believe you. Just wanted clarification. I don't like wasting my time and wasn't even going to both installing and trying if it didn't do this basic feature since I use it a ton. I'll go ahead and install and give it a shot. Thanks!

I have Astro 2.4.2 although it says it's about to expire. How do I make it do this:

Will have a look at the Pro version though. I tried Estrongs but didn't like it quite as much.

I do wish these $2.99 apps were priced in multiple currencies. It effectively doubles the cost for me if it is priced in dollars due to bank charges.

Same here :)

ASTRO is one of those apps I have absolutely no hesitation in financially supporting.

I've tried Estrong, but still prefer Astro and I don't mind the ads. One of the things that makes it better than the others is that you get an actual thumbnail of pictures rather than an image icon. It's little things like that make a difference, but to others, it might not matter one bit.

been using the free astro yesterday i purchased the key for the adds free version it still says authorizing purchase from yesterday... cant refund due to server error?? cant install cause it still wont download... anyone else having this problem??

After using EStrong for a bit I can easily say I like this better than Astro. It's hard to explain until you use it for a while but the UI is just better. Things are laid out better and the way you interact with it just seems to flow better. I'm sure others will like other things better but for me I'm an EStrong user now and don't feel like I took a step back at all. IN fact I'm kind of glad Astro forced the ads upon us w/o a way around it because it forced my hand to try something else and I feel like I upgraded in doing so. I'm sure others will disagree but I don't really care to debate because you can like what you want but like EStrong.

You can do this with Estrong as well. It's not this way by default though and I assume it's for quicker loading of larger folders with many files within. Just click the settings and select thumbnail and it will display thumbnails just like Astro did by default.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Can Metago make the Pro version available outside of the Market too? How about making it purchasable on an alternate website, so users outside of US can purchase it?

That's a great idea and I should add that it is always a good idea to check out the website before dloading an app. Many apps don't have good websites behind them and that's a big warning sign.
