Alternative to Yahoo messenger

can anyone recommend a messing app better then the Yahoo messenger app? It seems to be losing messages lately.. Use it for work so can't really test em out and lose more messages :banghead:

Have you ever tried Google Talk-video chat/messenger ect. Plus all tied into Gmail(if you use that).
Best way to stay in touch for me anyway.

Its one of those things where I'm stuck with Yahoo for some people.. I ain't happy about it but hey what can ya do
