Accessories aluminum shell interest

I am curious how many dinc owners would be interested in having all aluminum parts on their dinc to replace the current plastic pieces that make up the phone. This would probably involve some degree of taking the phone apart and putting It back together

I would be interested. Probably not in an entire casing simply because I wouldn't want to pay that much, but a metal back cover would be slick.

i just read that metal makes the service worse haha

Yea you are supposed to hold it like this:

i mean steven on these forums the guy with eh yoda avatar but yea jobs is an idiot i like those pics ahah

i was just thinking about this last night. seeing as how the phone gets hot easily an aluminum back cover would be cool. I'd be down

Wouldn't the heat conductivity of aluminum transfer the heat from the battery/phone to your hand?

I would think it the aluminum would act like a heat sink and help it cool down faster or stay cool. I have no idea I'm no metallurgist

Try this...get an aluminum pan. Stick it on the stove top, over a low flame. Care to stick your hand on it?

It'd do a better job venting heat from the phone and battery...which is an issue if you're holding it.

Aluminum is a known material for acting as a heat sink (I.E. electric motors, video cards, RC car gas and electric motors etc.

Your example is direct heat, not what he is suggesting.

PS - You would not want to touch an aluminum heat sink either, it's job is to dissipate heat over a larger area.

Um...they're both "direct heat" (ie conduction, or forced convection). Just a lot Less heat. It's not going to burn you, but it can be very unpleasant. (alternative example, warm up a brick to 140 F (60 C) put that in the pan, and stick your hand underneath it)

You probably could minimize that effect, without excessively insulating the battery/phone by putting an air gap between the battery and the aluminum case (using just enough felt/foam to keep everything secure).

No question that it'd work as a heat sink (ie a device that efficiently transfers heat). I'm just saying that's not an entirely desirable property to have in a cell phone case.
