Am I being too picky? Dust.

My Droid X has one small white speck of dust under the screen about half way up, maybe less than an inch over towards the middle (right hand side).

I can see it if I look close, I can easily see it if I have the screen off in the sun light and look for it. Partially because I know it's there.

When the screen is on, and I look very close against a white color, it just darkens that small area a bit. Sort of looks like a funky pixel, but again, very faint. Because I know it's there I can locate it easily, but you would have to really look for it. Once you know where it is, you can see it against the color white.

With that being said I'm a little annoyed by it, not killing me, but I know it's there.

Anyway, I found a Wal-Mart that had 3 X's in stock and they are shipping one to my local Wal-Mart for me to swap it out.

My question is, do you think I am making a mistake?

What would you do?

Everything else on the phone, so far, is flawless. No dead pixels, no funky buttons, nice tight build. Except for my pet piece of dust.

Obviously it will be a pain in the ass to reconfigure my phone, but whatever, I'm just wondering if I'm setting myself up for possibly going from bad to worse.

I'm sure Wal-Mart will let me examine the phone before I swap, maybe that will make my decision easier.

Whatever makes you happy man. Do you really want to be bothered every time you pull out the phone for the next 2 years? On the flip side, it's probably not that big of a deal but I haven't seen any pictures. It seems like it bothers you enough that a replacement is probably the best option. /2 cents

I don't think your being unreasonable at all. I would do the exact same thing in your situation. Not sure if this was just a faulty build or you are around dusty conditions and keep your phone in your pocket. I work in construction and I used to get dust under my storm 2 screen. I swapped one of those out for the same reason. It drove me crazy seeing it. With this phone I have been trying my hardest to keep it out of the pocket as im sure this is the main cause for dust build up.

My moto droid had a spec of dust under the screen. It bothered me and simply got it replaced for another....they didn't want to replace it because it didn't affect the phones use...in the end they replaced it....just complained.

You paid money for a product that does not included defects. If you are unsatisfied, you should get it replaced

My 2 cents :)

Above the D in delete.

I don't think you're being unreasonable, but if you put it in your pockets this will probably happen again. Motorola isn't very good at preventing dust from getting under the screen.... this was a huge problem back in the day when I had a RAZR (remember when that was the coolest phone?????)

It was also a problem with iPhone 3GS. I went through a couple until I got a screen with no dust. My iPhone 4 has nothing first shot.

It's probably inevitable that dust will find it's way in, just probably never seen if it's so small. None of these phones are made with a vacuum seal and dust sometimes is just unavoidable. Still annoying though.

i actually have a nearly similar problem to this but i didn't think they would actually exchange it. i think i'll give it a try at the vzw store.

girls hate guys who obsess over little insignificant crap like this.

just sayin.
tell us more about how girls work we are interested

Things like that bother me too. If that were mine and I kept it I just know that every time I pull my phone out I'd be irritated.

Yes, because girls never obsess over insignificant crap.

To the OP, whether or not anyone else would do it is irrelevant. You paid a bunch of money. You got a product with a flaw and the particular flaw is bothersome to you. Get it swapped and be happy. If your next phone comes with a problem, get it swapped again.

Motorola is selling a product with certain promises and expectations. They aren't selling a "best effort."

Thanks, I happen to think you're right. I'm going to do the swap but just give it a good examination before I go through with it.

Just saying .

Wow, so original. I only said it because the previous poster somehow insinuated that a picky guy would be hated by girls, which of course is ridiculous.

Does everything else on your phone work fine? Do you want to take a crap-shoot and find that your replacement has some of the other issues mentioned on this forum?

Why did you blur out the hot chicks' faces?

Because I don't know them, probably shouldn't even use a pic with other people in it. This really isn't about my girlfriend though. It's about my damn dusty phone. ;)

Do I want to take a chance getting a worse phone? No

Should I assume that most people don't have dust under their screen then?

I mean if that's the case then maybe I stand a good chance to get one without dust.

Yes I don't think many people have dust under their screen. I haven't heard of anyone else say something about it. But if you mention anything about your girlfriend you know everyone is going to want pics...
