Root Am i rooted?

Gustav2

Newbie
Hello guys

A few minutes ago I were at a site where I could download paid apps for free. Then I saw an app called Instantroot and i became interested.
I downloaded the app and suddenly I got a notification saying "rooting access acquired!"

I rebooted, don't know why, and now I am confused about if I am rooted.

If I am, what to do?
Oh, and I can't connect to the mobile internet after the "root".

Hope you can help!

I don't think you'll get a tremendously friendly reception here by saying that you're pirating apps. That said, instantroot is, I believe, not a paid-for app anyway.

Well, i only downloaded camera zoom fx, and I can only, download free apps, so only way to get it was that way..
I just found out that the root app is free, so the apps on the site is both paid and free.

But, back on topic, am I rooted? I am pretty scared because I don't know anything about it.

It wasnt the only way to get it. I had another person here before you cannot access paid apps on the market, and they bought the app direct from the developers website.

Ok, i didnt knew that, i will try next time(maybe ;))

but i just resetted to factory settings, and the mobile network is still not working. Ive heard taht a hard reset doesnt "restart" the firmware, so when 2.1 will be released will all people who rooted lose their root if they update? And if, will my phone be fine again?

You can use the RUU tool from HTC and reflash your phone to 2.73. It will erase everything on your phone and definitely undo any sort of root. If by some chance you've loaded a trogan/virus onto your Hero, this would be the best way to take care of it. It would probably be a good idea to reformat your SD card as well, before reflashing, just in case it has some malicious files on it (you can save things from it like your pictures and such just fine of course).

Assuming uses the same RUU method for the Android 2.1 update, it will also wipe your phone entirely, so you can always wait for that if you want.
