Am I wrong....

for seriously considering selling my Vibrant and buying a Nexus 1? I haven't made up my mind or anything, The idea is just in it's infancy. I've joked about it over the past few weeks, but lately my Vibrant has been acting funnier than usual. Forget the fact that I still haven't gotten the JI6 update, or the market update. Forget the fact that I've rooted and lag-fixed re-ROM'd, and re-stocked a couple of times. (Currently my phone is root-stock) In addition to having crappy GPS, it's not dropping 3G signal regularly. The phone is lagging something awful lately, and 3 times in the past 2 weeks it restarted itself. 4 Times I had to soft reboot because the lad is so damn bad.

I'm digging the superficial benefits phone, I love the screen, it's perfect for me size and weight wise. However it's no longer functional, and to me beyond any software updates and how pretty it looks, at the end of the day if it can't make calls, send text messages or email, it's not a $500.00 smart phone. It's a broken toy.

I've gone through T-mobile once before and they happily replaced the phone, so this is the 2nd Vibrant I've had since launch and I'm convinced that they're going to put me through the same crap they put me through with my BH2. Rather than to do that dance, I just thought, does it make sense to replace the Vibrant 1 last time, or just abandon it and get a Nexus which is (and I could be wrong) the most comparable phone available now. Thoughts?

It is your call but with JI6 I have been in love with the vibrant figure out why you are not getting JI6 and then decide.

To the OP:

If you have access to Windows, download
"mini Kies" Not Kies, but "mini kies" to get the official JI6 update downloaded and updated via your computer/usb phone connection. That's how I did it when I never got the update.

I feel your frustration. I just sold my Vibrant for $300 this past week. The prices are dropping on craigslist for the Vibrant. Many Vibrants for sale these days.

I wouldn't necessarily go for the Nexus One. It will be almost 12 months old when the Nexus One was released Last Jan 2010. 12 months is a long time in cell phone hardware.

You can get a used/Mint G2 for around $300-350 and the G2 will have almost the same type of "official Google" support as the Nexus one.

Or get a mytouch 4g for around $350 mint on craigslist if you don't want the keyboard.

That's what I am looking at after selling my Samsung Vibrant. Samsung has got a very powerful phone but they don't have enough software support for the end uses.

The Nexus S will be supported. That is Googles newest development phone and will get updates first. Even the Nexus one probably will get 2.3 before we will.

Ok, you see, right there... That's what I fear the most is that it won't. We all drank that Kool-aid after the BH2 cluster ****. I just have this feeling that the Nexus S will be screwed by virtue of the fact that it's Samsung and Tmobile. (Assuming that it's available on T-mobile again)

My issue isn't with the OS anymore, the latest and greatest will hopefully only be relevant through Eclair. I would like to believe that app developers will be making their apps more backward compatible like iOS. (the only thing I'm jealous about when it comes to the iPhone.) Otherwise I would trade any of these deserts for a phone that doesn't lag, makes and receives calls consistently, has a good browser engine because I use the browser a lot, excellent email, and GPS that is spot on. Music an movies are secondary (which the Vibrant handles better than anything Ive seen recently).

So I threw a Hail Mary and put the JI6 on it. Because the weather is horrible today I'm not going outside to test the GPS fix. It does find me in the house, and a bit quicker than it did earlier. If there's an improvement there, great. It really messed with my sweep to unlock screen though. Now I have to put effort into it. Other than that, the phone is as laggy as ever and nothing else has changed. BTW before I used Mini Kies, I called T-mobile to see if they could push it too me just for fun.

They said 2 things,

1. That there is no update available for the phone and when one is it will be pushed to everyone.

And when I made sure he understood that I was asking for the hot fix and not the OS upgrade, (Which he thought I was asking about Froyo, idiot.)

2. "Oh, yeah Gingerbread started going out last week."

I just hung up and downloaded Mini Kies.

You just might want to consider getting a warranty replacement. I had to do this recently due to a haptic feedback problem. Given the fact that I had working GPS on my then current phone, I expressed my serious concerns to the rep about getting a different phone that might have GPS issues.

At that point the rep sounded supremely confident that this would definitely not be the case and gave me repeated reassurances that it could not happen.

I received a brand new/not refurbished phone in original, factory sealed Samsung packaging. The build date was 10/20/10. JI6 was already installed. The new phone gets a GPS lock and my location virtually instantly. The signal strength is the highest I've ever seen on GPS and it seems to lock more birds. Battery consumption is at least as good if not better and my gallery works just fine. My only complaint with my old phone's GPS was that it was sometimes slow in getting a lock on my location.

The new phone works like all Vibrants should have worked from the beginning.
