Amazon App Store Thread - Daily Free Apps

yes.. i am not sure I want to own that thing...

the size (40mb) and SMS permission... makes me worry about that is in that thing... and what it wants to do in my phone...

BTW: They updated the app a couple days ago, and I noticed the SMS permissions were removed.

They must have heard from a lot of people about how bad that idea was, or they realized they made a mistake requiring that permission.

Either way, at least that part of the issue is gone.
(But seriously, 40+ megs for the app? What in the heck are they doing there???)

Yeah, which one is best? I have all 3 sitting at Amazon, they look about the same. Probably the one that uses less memory... none have great reviews.

Comparison of FIVE major Office Apps [Updated 10/25; PICS!] - xda-developers

I actually prefer Quick Office (which I actually purchased) for its Dropbox and Google Docs compatibility.

I love Polaris too, but I am happy to also have Docs2Go.
Great!

I was just going to start a thread to have this discussion now that I have 3 from amazon. I'd rather just keep one so I don't have too many options in the pop up when I open a spreadsheet.

Will check out this thread.

reviews are very bad on today's app... why does it need so many permissions?

I will not risk .. getting this app... stay away!!!!

Wednesday, 11/30/2011 - Jelly Defense

Looks good, no stupid permissions, but it's another 50MB download. I doubt my low-end phone would run the game, even if I had the space available. Reviews, largely positive, say it's graphically pretty (and, not surprisingly, looks good on the Amazon Inflammation, I mean Fire).

Yeah 50mb! I'm not even going to try (but I'm saving it for "my next" device). I remember when the hard drive in my Mac was 40 mb and thought 80 mb was huge and way too expensive! All these devices and all the free stuff is amazing... it's like Christmas all year. A big thank you to Steve J. (even though Apple is not my thing anymore).

50 MB *again*? Wow. (But only Internet permission, which is nice.)

Of course, the "Break the Blocks" was under a meg, so the average over the past three days is more like 33MB. Or maybe it's a pattern: mega app, micro app, mega app... so tomorrow, I'd expect a "Hello World" app. :D

well today's app.. looks more visually pleasing.. and has a lot of physics to program... so I can see the higher size app.

that "Jelly defense" was just ridiculous.. i did not even try it for free!

oh really.. how so??? example please....

I have Dropbox on all the computers and devices I use. I also manage our corporate Dropbox account.

QuickOffice Pro allows me to work on/create a document and share it. One way I use it is for permission slips (I work with teens and their parents). So, I can make or alter an existing slip and share the link to the public Dropbox account on the go.

You can save to SD card, Google Docs, Sugarsync or Dropbox.

I just updated today... new feature:

*Support for Microsoft Office 2010 files
*Access and save to Evernote, Catch, and Egnyte
*Share files using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, SlideShare, Docstoc, Scribd, and Yammer
*Updated user interface for easier navigation and control
*Split/merge cells, and wrap cell text in spreadsheets
*Create and indent numbered lists, bulleted lists in documents

Another nice office app is Polaris.
