Amazon App Store Thread - Daily Free Apps

Yesterday's FAotD was Monopoly (the real thing, not a knockoff). I downloaded it but haven't run it yet.

Strange thing, though: it was a huge, wifi-only download, I wanna say it was like 20MB. If the Appstore didn't send it directly to the SD card, I couldn't have even downloaded it. But when I look at the app in System settings, it shows up as just 776KB. That's strange!

Today's app: something called Hot Donut. Looks pretty generic. But then, I'd have said the same thing about Angry Birds if I'd never heard of it before.

Typically I'd post this in the Accessories section, but since Remote Desktop is such a great tool to have, I figured I'd make a thread out of it in case some people don't visit the Accessories thread. It's free via the Amazon app store. After today if a Mod wants to move it into the Accessories thread that's fine. Just figured visibility for the remainder of today would be preferred. Below is the link and a review (not my review).

Splashtop Remote Desktop Review - YouTube

...and for all you new Android users; the Amazon app store has a paid app for free daily. One of the many daily things i do on my phone. Thx txgoat!

I swear there are less permissions on this app than there are on some of the "flashlight" apps out there! :D

I've been interested in a desktop app for some time ... and haven't been keeping up with the Amazon Daily deal ... thanks for the heads up!

I too check the amazon app store daily. Mostly its games, and most of them aren't very good, but for free what do you expect. Also, there is a guy on there by the name of Superman75 that gives every app 1 star and writes funny, sarcastic reviews. Even if I don't download the app, I always look for his review.

So it's pretty slick.

I had to reboot my phone and my computer after loading everything up. Not sure whether it's a standard requirement ... or the fact that neither my phone nor my computer have been shut off in a couple of weeks!

It's a little laggy ... as completely expected ... but it will work in a pinch to look at something on your computer! I managed to open (play) a music file, open a picture, create a directory, copy a file, delete a file. This was over my Wifi connection ... 3G, 4G mileage might vary.

Whenever an app like this pops up on Amazon for free, I always click to "buy" it. Even if I have no use for it now, it'll sit in my Amazon apps, so I could always download it again for free in the future if I need it.

I can't seem to get the streamer site to work on my pc. I click on the download for windows and the page just sits there and loads forever. Any advice?

Edit: Never mind, got it to work. I've been using PhoneMyPC and in my opinion, that works much better and is free. I'll stick to that, but thanks to the OP for pointing this out.

Today's app is the handiest I've seen in a while. I'm about to try it out to see how well it works.

A Remote Desktop app? Sweet, that's just what I've been needing! I've got an old netbook with a busted screen that I like to use as a server, but it's Win 7 Crippled Beggar Edition and doesn't let me remote in.

... but wait, what's this. When I hit "install", I get "Application Not Installed". WTF? A quick check of the *real* Android Market for Splashtop Remote Desktop shows the reason: "This app is incompatible with your T-Mobile LGE LG-P509." I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the app isn't compatible with my low-end Froyo small-screen phone... but I am definitely sad. :(

As for the Amazon AppStore... what if I'd paid for the app? Would I have found out *after* the easy one-click purchase that I couldn't actually run the thing?

I would assume you would contact Customer Service and let them know about it. I can't see them not giving a refund based on what you said here.

Guys, I have a problem, since a few days back, I hcan't download the free apps.
I get the error that the Amazon appstore is not yet available in your region.
It was working just fine, I didn't make any changes on it. The username and pw are the same.
I used an address in the US. So I don't know what to do. I am from costa rica.
Any ideas?

Thank you!

The only thing i get is receipt emails. Idk if i requested it or what but always good for me. That one click purchase can screw people up!

Its actually a two-click process now. They got TONS of complaints and updated their app few months ago.

And figures I didn't check amazon for couple days on account of being busy past few days. Would have LOVED to score this app :(

If you want a very good and free remote desktop app, get the Wyse Pocket Cloud Free version. Works very well and has some nice features. Available in the Market.
