AMOLED or SLCD

I just got my Desire a week ago and it doesn't specify AMOLED in the box. However the blacks have no grayish cast on them and there is no bleeding. The whites are white with no pinkish tint on them. Now I don't know what it is.

Having just compared my AMOLED screen to my girlfriends new SLCD screen I'm surprised to say I actually prefer the SLCD screen. It's noticeably crisper (not far off iphone 4 standards). The colour's just as good as on the AMOLED if not a little better/more natural. The brightness is as good but the only negative is the black level. Obviously the AMOLED wins with that. All in I think I actually prefer the SLCD which is not something I was expecting. The crisper lines on the SLCD definitely put it ahead for me.

Hey i read this on one of tw forum
i havent got a desire and never tried this but just provide this method hope its helpful

look for P/N:

SLCD → 99HKZ 102-00
AMOLED → 99HKZ 002-00

Part number on mine is 99HKZ063-04

So what I have is anyone's guess. ;)

On my own (4 month old (Brown)) Desire, I have an AMOLED - On my OH's (2 month old (black)) she definately has SLCD - Both direct from Orange - Have to say that mine is MUCH "whiter" for whites, "blacker" for blacks and MUCH more vivid in general.. To the point of me considering sending hers back.. (Bith on same brightness settings etc)

If she's happy with the phone, why bother?

Personally, I prefer the S-LCD screen due to its more natural colours. I'm a photographer and know what an image should look like, and although the AMOLED screens are fine to use in typical everyday use, when it comes to photos, AMOLED is awfully over-saturated. For phone use though, it doesn't really matter...either will do the job nicely and there is no reason to be disappointed with one or the other.

As a few others have said, don't worry, be happy and enjoy the phone!

Hi to everybody.
I am new of the HTC world, and I am searching to buy a Desire phone.
I am from Italy, and here there are different versions of the Desire.

According to the fact that I MUST NOT buy it from italian stores (they are quite much more expencives), the Desire we can find online (at least for now) is one of the following sereis:

- 99HKZ124-00 (white case)
- 99HKZ015-00 (don't understand if it is brown or black case)

I am searching for a BLACK version, and if I understood good, the AMOLED display should be better, right?

What about getting a phone that has only Android 2.1 installed? I heard that new phones has Android 2.2 already installed, and that those phones are like a new generation ones, and they shoud have also new revisited motherboard with no auto-reboot issue.

Is this all correct? What are those series codes for? What should I look for?

Hi all,
I also recently received my new A8183 (telstra) desire a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying the screen (SLCD).
Originally, I was expecting an AMOLED display as I am used to this from the Galaxy i7500 but to be honest, I was blown away by the sharpness and colour, and actually thought it was amoled to begin with.
I compared it with an amoled desire side by side and could see a silght dark purple hue in the black on mine, but on its own you cant really see this.
A benefit of the SLCD though is that the screen wont suffer plasma-style burn in like the AMOLED ones can. I recall on the Galaxy if you left the phone with the charging screen for too long the huge battery icon would sort of burn in for a while.
All the best
Cheers.
