Root Amon Ra Recovery Help

Hi, I have a few questions on this process. I read the guides and just want to confirm a few things....

When I flash this recovery image I do the following steps:

1. Save the zip file to a location on my Windows PC
2. Plug phone into PC and be in fastboot
3. Use cmd prompt to change to the directory where the zip file is
4. Use cmd prompt to flash via fastboot

Questions are:

1. Is this correct?

2. Does it matter where I save the zip file (does it have to be in the same folder as the files I used to unlock the bootloader?)?

3. Once this recovery image is flashed on my phone, does it replace the stock recovery file on my phone (just overwrite with same name, or should I name the Amon Ra file something different)?

Thanks for any help with these questions.

you are close :)

you are not flashing .zip files, you are removing the image from the .zip file and flashing that wiht fastboot flash or fastboot boot

it is important where you put the image. it has to be in the same folder where adb and fastboot live

wether amon replaces your stock recovery depends on what fastboot command you use:

fastboot boot<recovery name>.img will temporarily launch the recovery into phone memory so you can flash the superuser files. this is the best way,IMO,to run a stock rom.

fastboot flash recovery<recovery name>.img it will permanently install amon in place of your stock recovery. there is no real good reason to install amon permanetly if youre just flashing superuser and do not intend to flash custom roms,and/or make frequent backups.

i personally do not keep a recovery on the rezound, even tho i do flash custom roms

This is a great help and cleared up my confusion.

I am probably just going to flash the recovery so I can flash ROMS when I want to without reloading the recovery img.

Is there any good reason to keep the recovery img stock, and if so, is there a file located anywhere to flash back?

the biggest advantage of the stock recovery is its ability to apply OTAs. if youve done any reading in the forum, youve prolly noticed the stress and confusion OTAs have caused some users who were running custom recoveries

if you want to run stock, then the stock recovery will apply any OTAs that come along.yes, you will have to re-root after each OTA,but thats no big deal. gone are the days where we will need a new exploit unless htc decides to not let us have access any more. ;)

other than that, its largely a matter of preference. i dont keep a recovery becasue i like to flash my kernels in fastboot, not as PH98IMGs on the sd card,so its not possible for me to flash roms or restore backups without a PC,anyway. i just "fastboot boot" my recovery everytime as part of the process.

i got in the habit of always "fastboot boot"ing recovery when messing with an evo 3d. they are able to flash kernels in recovery as long as recovery is launched in this manner. im not sure why it doesnt work this way for the rezound, maybe just the way the roms are packed?

Cool.

I ended up flashing the image anyway. Im not a crack flasher...most likely going to try a ROM or two out then stick with it for a while. I used to run CM7 on my Dinc and never bothered to use anything else except every now and then the most up to date nightly.

i do like to flash a fair amount of roms, but i always end up back on some sort of AOSP. makes me sad that with the transition to cm9 no one has bothered porting cm7 to the rezound :( id love to have it until cm9 is more functional.

i have to admit, that ICS sense are the first sense roms ive been able to stomach for more than a couple days without having to "desensify" ;) ive always liked flip clock, and the ics rosie lets you change its shortcuts,so its been good so far :D ive found jolez9614's "sense redefined" rom to be very acceptable/stable/smooth/etc
