Root An Error Occurred

Hey Folks
I'm new to the rooting game. Here's the issue. I'm running 2.2 and have rooted with easy root. I'm stuck here though. When I try to run 'flash clockwork mod recovery i get this message: an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands'
When I try to install a ROM from the SD card (lithium for example) nothing happens...
Any advice?

Did you try to Fix Permissions in ROM Manager? Just taking a swag here...
