There are plans for a reality TV show based on mars ( the tv show is how they plan on funding the project)

The vast majority of the MSL project is American, so its ok to be a little proud!!!
It was really incredible to watch the stream last night. Heart pounding, dissecting every word being said by the mission controllers until the leaps of joy. Amazing event to witness, to me this is a million times better than winning all the gold medals at the Olympics.
By the way, new photos have been released and the first color photos are on the way now.

I think a good bit of the stuff was built here, you just did the easy stuff like the physics and calculations and years of R&D, pssshh

It completely blows my mind when I look at where the Voyager twins are now. Perhaps Alan Dean Foster and Harold Livingston were onto something when they wrote the first Star Trek movie
I think that it's amazing that whilst other countries may be taking the lead in ISS projects, the US still has it on Mars exploration...

I have to admit that when I heard how they were landing it I wondered whether Gerry Anderson was part of the mission team - that was pure Thunderbirds!

I am rather fond of our space program. I still remember when Oscar 1, our first amateur satellite, went up just a few years after the launch of Sputnik 1. Shows what the non-professionals can accomplish. I hope they do land a person on Mars.

Could very well be the case. I doubt we will see any humans living on mars any time soon. Apparently, the cost of the trip is going to be paid for from the profits realized from a Reality TV show. True or not?
Anyway, we will explore Mars because we are human and history shows we are compelled to see what is over the next hill. We just cannot help it, we need to discover.

That certainly is what this guy is saying, but he got torn apart on Reddit and as I said, the whole thing appears to be a joke. It would be nigh on impossible to raise the funds via a show, and the humans couldn't survive more than a few years due to environmental conditions etc.

Forget what NASA has to say about living in space and on other planets, they do not know much I think. We will learn just how clueless these scientists are when we start building condos on mars. They will quickly learn just how much they do not know.
Hell, it took them a long time to finally discover that Pluto is not a planet. These days, NASA will likely redefine the sun as as a planet and they will start landing humans on the sun.

I've been looking at some of the pictures and it is awesome that we have a rover there, and with less processing power than our current smartphones and it can still do everything it needs to do.
If it didn't take so long to get there I would sign up to help colonize.... seriously doubt that will happen in any of our lifetimes though.
