...and if your interested in wifi tether

I'm not too worried about it since its easy to root and get wireless tether from the market. But. Like using this more so I hope they dont do that. I just wont ever update mine I guess.

Mine is the same too and mine is still working. I know that sometimes you may have to delete the connection from your pc and then re-add it. Maybe that's the issue?

Ok, so stupid question. Even if you are unable to use this hack due to the update, you can still use the wifi tether by rooting it? What about other phones?

I know a guy who rooted his EVO and uses the wifi tether. I haven't rooted my EVO or Optimus (I'm still a little chicken, haha) so I don't know the answer to that question. In reference to the update, not so sure now that it was an update that caused raylonr to have problems since he and I have the same version of everything and mine still works. I just thought it was odd that I'd received an update notificaton dated the same day his hotspot stopped working.

I personally have no problems with rooting my phone if it will work, I just don't want to spend the money unless I know for sure that it will. I will do some more research on it.

HEADS UP. Many thanks to Sandersj64 12/28/10 01:23pm in thread "how cann
I get internet from my lg optimus s to my computer " for solving my problem :
For wifi hotspots to work you must use green icon quick settings & tap checkbox
(Not the words ) in wifi hotshot. Apparently there was no dreded update.

So now how do I prevent future unwanted updates ?
And where is the advanced user guide I saw somewhere on
The net?

lol.

This is freaking awesome. Worked like a charm with my wife's iPod Touch, but couldn't get my Laptop to connect. Prolly a PICNIC problem, not a phone problem. I owe you a beer NOMster.

Hi raylon, I read that it stopped working for you on 1/29, which led me to believe that you had already downloaded quicksettings and had completed the setup and it was working for you prior to 1/29. I was merely trying to put two-and-two together since I had received a notification of an update the very same day it stopped working for you. Since I hadn't run the update and mine was still working, I thought perhaps whatever the update was could have eliminated our ability to use the hotspot. Come to find out, in short, there is no dreaded update...yet ;)

Tether quit working 29 jan on my -s with "network not avalablee"

Any idea why? Am using xp & quicksettings?

Are you referring to raylonr's posting his question before researching other threads/posts or my reading and comprehension of raylonr's question? I did read raylonr's question and he said that it quit working on 1/29 and that he was using quicksettings. Not that he hadn't been able to set it up or wanted to know how to set it up. Based on that information and the fact that I'd received a notification on that same date, I theorized that it was possible that an update had been released on 1/29 that would nip the hotspot in the bud. At any rate, glad that an update didn't cause his problems and that he found a solution :)

:confused:I use Sprint. I have 2 each Lg Optimus s wifi cell phones with hotspot and tether wifi, Vista desktop pc with wifi card, crossosver cable, XP laptop with wifi card, Kingston docking station, ethernet router.
Is it possible to use the wifi hotspots or the wifi to network both computers? If so would I have a reasonable amount of security? I have Mcaffee suite on the laptop. I know if I use the cell phone hotstpot I can connect both computers to the net through it. But will that let me share the computers printer/drives etc? I also have pdnet working in USB.
If so, how to do it?
Raylon

I rooted my Optimus and am running thunderom and so far so good. However, I am using this "Hotspot Widget" and I don't know if I downloaded it along with the Aprintapps zip file or it came with the ROM.

Long story short, am I using the official hotspot tether app and being charged for it although my thinking is not?

you know, without rooting and using the one that comes built in from being froyo without using a carrier, you're in luck. this phone will do it.

download the "quick settings" app from the market (the green gear icon one)
open it and press menu>customize
move the wifi hotspot up to be in the visible settings
turn it on.

*note-you cannot turn it on in settings in the phone but once its on using quick settings, you can go into settings and set up a password for your network.

I moved the wifie hotspot up to be in the visible settings but I can't turn it on since on the right side there is no off/on check box. Can you help?

Thanks!

okay. after you move it up into the visible area. exit the app. reopen the app. on the right there are checkboxes for all of the options you have such as wifi, wifi hotspot, bluetooth, sound etc. if you dont see a little grey box with a line in it, let me know. the grey square with the line is the checkbox.

From what I've read at Androidcentral the hack isn't affected but if you are rooted and accept the update you're in trouble.

I've had this phone for a couple of weeks and haven't had the chance to try this out until tonight. Tested it out and it works perfectly

5 stars for the thread, and Thanks to the OP :D

This sounds great.

I downloaded "quick settings" from market, but I can't find a "menu" on quick settings. Any suggestions?
....
OK, I read some more in this thread and I tried the Hotspot Widget, and that seems to be working (it enables the checkbox for the mobile hotspot setting). I'm still wondering if I have the right "quick settings" application...
