Andoid 2.1, from Engadget

I really wish we could get Verizon to confirm that at some point in the future our lovely little Eris will get an upgrade to 2.0 or higher. The only responses I can ever get are... we can't comment... currently no updates... etc. Yeah I know HTC has promised 2.0+ for "Hero" phones, but Verizon has to agree to it as well. They gotta test it and they gotta approve it. It would just be nice if they'd chime in, even if it's just a quick "We dunno when, but it will definitely be coming"... I think that'd make me feel a lot better. *shrugs*
I went into the VW store to get another Eris, and I asked two dudes about the Android 2.0 update and they said they're pretty sure we're getting it either in December or January.

If it weren't for the stupid Sense UI we'd have it now..
I think vanilla android looks so much better, I just don't like any other android phone available.

turn sense ui off if you dont like it.....how-to is in the tips and tricks thread

actually, you can....

You can disable the Sense UI without uninstalling it or rooting the device (which to my knowledge is not yet possible as there are no roms).

To switch to the stock android home manually do:

1. Click Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
2. Scroll down until you find an application named "HTC Sense" and click on it.
3. Scroll down to where you can see "Launch by default" and click on "Clear defaults".
3. Then push the Home button (on your phone) and a dialog will pop up showing "Home" and "HTC Sense", check "Use by default for this action" and then click "Home". Now you got "Home" as default.

Just repeat the same process for "Home" to go back to the "HTC Sense" UI.

Alternatively you can use a program on the market place called "Home Switcher" to do this for you.

i did this myself just to test it and it defo works.

For once I'm glad I went to check that thread just for laughs, and it actually does work! I guess I had no clue you could do that, I figured I was stuck with Sense! OMG that's crazy.
I owe you an apology.. :D

I know this has been posted on other threads, but to keep this one up-to-date as well:

Verizon announced that, officially, the Eris will get an upgrade to 2.0 or higher in Q1 2010.

Thanks Verizon! All I wanted was official confirmation, and you gave it! You made me a happy camper!

Its good that verizon gave a commitment, but knowing verizon(i have all 4 services) it will probably be the last day of the first quarter of 2010, which would be march 31.

Also, does this mean we won't get any updates until then or is this basically just the 2.0 upgrade we were promised when the eris was first announced:confused:

No, I am sure we will still see an MR (maintenance release) or two between now and then to fix issues. The rumor is still Dec 11th for the first, and then another in January. Just because an upgrade is announced doesn't mean they won't still work towards fixing bugs in the current software. They'll do both.

Just my .02... ;)

I hope your right. I really don't care so much about 2.0, i just want the bug fixes.
