does anyone know how to get rid of the androind icon when you make a call and the contact doesn't have a picture assigned?

Steven's right on the money! Add a picture and that will supercede the generic Android displayed during a call. If you don't have a picture then use a generic picture of your choice... or go into MS Paint and create a blank .jpg/.gif file and use that.
