I would like to know how i can update this to a more recent version? what i need to do and where to download the os?

You would need to contact the manufacturer. Unfortunately with these knock-off tablets, they arent supported, and will never be updated.

There may be a hacking community for the tab, slatedroid.com has quite a bit of devs that work on hacking specific tabs.

There is no standard for what is needed on phones and tablets currently. Unlike a laptop where the OS knows you will have a mouse-like imput and a keyboard, different tablets will have different hardware buttons and such so the manufacturer needs to customize android to the tablet itself. The hacking community will also do this on tablets bypassing the manufacturer.
