Android 2.0.1 SDK materializes, Droid getting it in 'coming weeks'

I'm just curious as to what an update might do to some apps that have been written specifically for 2.0.

Nothing. The base is the same so there should be no Interuption. 2.0.1 is only a miner update. At least thats what I am gathering. 2.1 is a New version so that may require the developers to redesign.

The 2.0.1 update should make no difference to apps written for 2.0. Also, as long as Google doesn't change the base code of 2.0 when they release 2.1, those apps for 2.0 will work on 2.1. The reason 1.6 apps have to be changed for 2.0 is because Google changed a lot of the core code.

One of the big changes was creating Android OS and apps to adapt to different screen sizes and resolutions, something the iPhone never had to worry about. But if Android will be on devices of all shapes and sizes, then this move was necessary.
