Help Android 2.1 Repeating E-Mail Notifications.

This is for folks trying to get just one notification per new gmail and not continue to be pestered forever while you're trying to work, sleep, etc.

There are two "out-of-the-box" programs that receive/sound gmail notifications on Android.

1) Menu/All programs/Gmail
2) Menu/All programs/Mail

"Gmail" program notifies the way you want it. "Mail" pesters you forever...

I did the following:

1) Menu/All programs/Gmail/Inbox/Menu/Settings/Email notifications (check to turn on)

2) Menu/All programs/Mail/Inbox/Menu/Settings/Notification settings/Email notifications (uncheck to turn off)

Now I only get one notification when a new message arrives, period... Thank God!

The problem is that I do not use Gmail at all for correspondence. I only use my main POP3 account with the HTC Mail app for that. Yes, even months later I have not solved the repeating new email notifications issue on my Sprint HTC Hero. It still does it and it is still a bit annoying, though I have mostly gotten used to it.

I have been wanting to try out K-9 Mail, but to be honest I have been lazy about it and not even installed it yet. Perhaps when I root my Sprint HTC Hero the repeating new email notifications problem with resolve itself.

an old thread but what the heck. you can set your email not to receive email between certain times. this is built in to stock 2.1 2.2.
timer riffic is a way too.

Haha! Wow, this was the first thread I ever made here. I was an Android greenhorn back then. Talk about a blast from the past!

Actually, I asked this question back when I was running stock Android 2.1 with Sense UI, and I do not think there is an option for the regular email client to set times where it will not fetch the email. I have been through the settings numerous times. Frankly, if I were to restore my stock ROM via Nandroid backup, it would still notify me over and over about existing emails. I actually got used to that and came to appreciate it because if I was away from my handset for a while and came back it was nice to get a new notification about email that was waiting for me while I was gone.
