Well everyone, I think this is our jan. 22nd update...just rolled out earlier as the one was before. :(

I don't know about that. I've had my droid for a month and didn't receive any notice overnight at all. My firmware on the phone still says 2.0.1 .

do u really believe that cuz like two people got an update that pretty much does nothing? and if this was the real deal like last one then why is there not verizon document like last time that describes all the changes? Wasn't there a pdf that was out like before anyone really got the update (not the 11 page document but rather a 1 page pdf)

any change to the kernel version/build number?

i got the update last night, too. it doesn't seem to have done anything at all except i had to sign into my facebook settings again, too. not through bloo, just through the regular fb app. do you want me to post my kernel and build number? will that mean anything without knowing what it was before? because i don't have that, sorry. let me know.

Post it. Those of us who haven't had the update and are using the standard 2.0.1 can compare to yours.

It should be the same for everyone so those of us who havent had any OTA update can check it against ours.

Here's mine (I did not get any notification/update so this is vanilla 2.0.1)

Firmware version:
2.0.1

Kernel:
2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b
android-build@apa26#511

Build Number
ESD56

it's still 2.0.1, but here's the other info:

kernel version
2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b
android-build@apa26 #511

build number
ESD56

don't have comparison to my old info, though. this droid i just got from verizon last week (my 3rd, lucky me).

so that's the same as my "OTA" version. that is so weird. i totally got the notification screen, hit the install, it did that little unpacking animation, took a while so i walked away, and when i came back in the room, it was done. and nothing was different except that fb relogin thing. do you think they are testing some phones in prep for the OTA?

Everyone who dl'd check your widget list, I have a thing called es manager (embedded) its like ATK but as a kill all widget. Was this part of the update?

So I was not prompted an update (rooted phone here) but I was trying to call a customer service number earlier today on my phone and the people on the other end could not hear me. I tried restarting the phone, no luck. Not sure if it has anything to do with this update, even though I didn't see a prompt for the update. I did however notice that I had to log back into my facebook app last night like everyone else is describing.

Haven't had a chance to try calling anyone else, will try in a little bit here.

maybe...just maybe they're testing the ability to push out the update...and the real 2.1 will be coming soon! lol...i'm WAY too optimistic

ohh werd, my thread blew up..

so yea my kernal and build version and firmware version are all the same as they were before the update. like the others said i searched the phone high and low and the only thing that needed me to redo it was my facebook settings. i guess since its a built in app it required such an update in this fashion.

as far as 2.1 im looking forward to a few more screens, even though i really dont need. i dislike the 3d apps list with the whole checkerbox and shit. i used the 2.1 launcher on my droid for like 5 hours and disliked it right away and deleted it.

oh also, for those who DID get this update.. were you having facebook issues? getting no notifications, cannot update to most current app through market?

and for those who HAVE NOT received the update, do you have any problems with facebook? you using the current version?

maybe it knows whos having problems and who isnt? like its checking everyone phone to see if their running 1.1.1 which means they probably arent update so they force fixed it for us?

I actually agree..the 3d app drawer is pretty lame. I would much prefer just so friggin fluidity on scrolling between homescreens

i don't think so. maps was a built in app and able to be updated through the market.

I awoke to the same prompt, but since I'm rooted, I wanted to check here, first. "Update to 2.01"? No-kay. I guess I have to see what it does on my wife's first. :D I finally just got the damned thing like I like it! lol
This is the first time that I've seen the term "rooted". What does it mean?

There should be quite a few guides on how to and what rooting is. But it is a way to get "root" access to your phone and basically change whatever you want with the software but this is not always for just anybody.

thanks... that's all I need to know (& not something that I'd screw with)

nope, no new widgets. can't find a thing different at all. totally bizarre.

Ever wanted to blend your DNA with that of a plant? Ever wanted to give the phrase ' going green' a whole new meaning? Ever wanted to have bumble bees land on your junk and carry away your little soldiers to the Mrs? Then rooting is for you!
