Android 2.1 Update

downloaded it yesterday early afternoon ....the facebook update that is.

phone is rooted...which is why i'm thinking I didn't get the OTA update?

Oh, nevermind, I read your comment incorrectly.

The most recent OTA wasn't required to get the Facbook update, I've had mine updated long before the OTA Monday morning, it was just that some people who had 2.0.1 couldn't update. Something that was in the most recent OTA fixed whatever was wrong with their 2.0.1 update, it seems, as no one else has received that newer OTA.

Are we still getting this update tomorrow (1/22)? I know that a few websites had the 22nd as "the day" well before it was even officially announced we would get it, but I don't think it has been confirmed.

Anyone know?

I'd also be really interested to see if there are any issues getting the 2.1 update automatically if you manually loaded the 2.0.1 ROM instead of waiting for the OTA update. Shouldn't affect anything, but who knows...

From what I have read around the forums, tomorrow we get an update patch to prep us for 2.1, which will come soon after...

I am hoping it will be tomorrow, but I doubt it.

FYI - Don't get discouraged when people start to post here that this topic is being discussed in other post. That is just what people do.

Ahh I dont have my hopes up, we all know these ppl move at their own pace and keep us all in the dark about things of this nature. Thanks ! :)

I think the update that article was referencing was the facebook app update. I haven't really read/seen anything that says that it also included a "mini invisible ninja update" that "gets you ready for 2.1"

The updated facebook app had been available in the market for a while. I think what is happened is that the previous build wasn't compatible with 2.1 so they forced the update out to everyone. I guess that kinda means "it gets you ready for 2.1" but it really depends on how you look at it and how much you read into it.

I got an actual stem update. The build number and everything stays the same at 2.0.1. It was a 61mb update. So it had to be a prep for the 2.1 update or something close to it. It is possible that the update/patch has not gotten to you yet. I would give it some time. They may possibly just skip the update for you and go right to 2.1 when it is released.

I retract my previous statement. I guess this is "pre 2.1 update" confirmed?

It might not be that easy Nick. Word on the street is that the official 2.1 update release is going to seal off the ability to root. So, you might not be able to root the moment after your update.

Of course, I've been around long enough to know that when "they" try to keep us out . . . we just need to find another way IN. ;)

Devs have said the root exploit has been fixed for a while...so it won't be there in 2.1.

That said, devs may find a new exploit in 2.1.

Yeah it is definitely not looking good for tomorrow as "THE DAY" but who knows honestly. I doubt it now since we've had 0 leaked reports. I think that little bug fix or whatever it was that was releases this week was it for the "22nd update." Idk, just my opinion.. I think we have another week or two unfortunately :( ughhh.. we'll see though! OTA Fairy Gods could work some magic tonight! ;)

Couldn't we just root the same way the Nexus did?...since it's running 2.1? Obviously not the exact file, but a similar way they could figure that out..

You will receive a system notification once the update has been downloaded and is ready to install. From what I've heard, your battery will have to be full or close to it.
