Android 2.1 Update

Well, those guys are right. I received the OTA update that this article speaks of, last Saturday night. I don't understand how over 50% of Droid users have not received the update yet. January 22nd is hopefully the day for 2.1 though.

I fall in that unlucky 50% :'(

The pre-update did nothing but slighty increase the speed and smoothness of the droid. I wouldnt say you are unlucky. You may get it in a few days or not at all. Not a big deal, seeing we will all have the 2.1 update eventually, it makes no difference. Therefore, you are not so "unlucky".

You guys didn't get your 2.1 update packet in the mail from Verizon Wireless? It contains an envelope of purple powder. You mix it with water and drink your grape kool-aid. Only then will you be capable of transcendence and your Droid will escort you to a higher being behind the comet where the update server is waiting to install 2.1 for you.

We prettymuch have 2.1 on our phones now...

With the 2.1 keyboard, 2.1 news widget, BETTER than 2.1 multitouch browser, 2.1 music app, 2.1 voice, 2.1 launcher, what are you really missing? 2.1 live wallpapers that you'll try for maybe a day before deciding they aren't worth it?

The nexus is supposedly faster with 2.0.1 on it....

Anyways, after all this whining, I'd obviously try it out if / when it came.

Not to be rude, but this means nothing. It is very well possible that update 2.1 will be much better then what we have now..I just found another article that says its "confirmed" for tomorrow being the 2.1 update. But with every other article, there is always false rumor somewhere inbetween.

The dude @ droid-life spoke with a verizon tech that confirmed the 2.1 update for 1/22.

android 2.1 update for motorola droid confirmed for tomorrow

spoke with a verizon rep just a few minutes ago that confirmed what many have been saying for weeks. they are, as most of us, under the impression that the android os 2.1 update will start rolling out to motorola droids on friday, 1/22. (yes, tomorrow.)

while that comes as great news, there is also some sour news in the mix. when asked if flash 10 would be included in that update, they said they were still not expecting flash support until mid-2010. damn!

and if this rep is wrong on the timing of the update, i'll give everyone the store number so we can set it on fire.

what is the bid deal?? really!!

My Droid can make calls, send and receive emails, text, gps and everything I need it to do.

Is 2.1 going to make it scratch my nuts when they itch??? now THAT would be handy.

So im pretty sure there will be an update tomorow because on the leaked memo about the dec11 update stated jan22 as the day they would fix all the problems with the exchange servers weather or not this includes 2.1 I don't know but we can hope ;)

Yea because reps from VZW stores are sooooo knowledgeable haha, mine didn't even know that the Droid ran Android, he thought it had WinMo.

No kidding, I think I sold 6 Droids in the Verizon store by showing the patrons my Droid while the store reps were struggling to get the demo model to power on. The annoyed customer they were working with came over to see the fuss around me and ended up telling me he was going across the parking lot to BB to get one. I was LMAO!

All I wanted was the car dock when I walked into Verizon cuz BB didn't have one in stock.

I don't listen to the VZN ppl too much, but I don't really know how they can improve upon what I already have. I loaded the new music player, gallery and launcher already and while pleasing, it does little for the functionality. A noticable speed increase would be almost inconceivable. Did I mention that I haven't reset my Droid since day 1 (708 hours continuous use).

I wouldn't even expect Flash to be included in the default install. I might have missed something, but all of the info I hear from Adobe is that they are working on a version for Android and the iPhone. Now, the version that I have seen demoed looks to be integrated with the browser, but that could simply be because they have made a plugin for WebKit (the basis for both Chrome and Safari).

Anyhow, I would also expect the first installs of Flash 10 to be as beta, maybe even something available on the Market.

Adobe is not working on flas for the iPhone. They are working on it for every other phone OS, but not iPhone! haha! Eat it Apple!

I know every one though a device would be the iphone killer....but it will be apple that's the iphone killer.

somebody lock this thread already and forbid any further 2.1 threads.

IT COMES OUT WHEN IT COMES OUT. SHUT IT

i got it, it was OTA and it took awhile to dl (~64mb). new launcher works even smoother, and its not buggy in the landscape mode

each apk is optimized with optipng and zipalign.

keep it named update.zip and apply it as you would any other update.zip. you are gonna need to be rooted of course... which is literally the same exact process as applying this update.zip

:)It's now January 22 and I haven't received the update yet in Michigan, What about every one else?

(It's been a long day and I just need a laugh by seeing how many will complain. I'M easily amused):)

Now I'M bummed because the server time wasn't synced to the network and although my phone said 12:00, the message is stamped 11:59. Hopefully this issue is fixed in 2.1...
