Android 2.2 for Eris from Verizon?

I rooted mine with KaosFroyo too. Only problems I have are:

1. No live wallpapers will run on it.
2. Can't find a widget the same as stock Clock and Weather
3. Quick Profiles does a ForceClose when I try to set any volume controls.

1. Live wallpapers are hit and miss with the Eris, I think it depends on the screen resolution to run properly. I have only ever been able to get one to work.

2. Beautiful Widgets.

3. Sorry, don't know about that one. :(

beautiful widgets is close to the HTC one, but Fancy widget is a straight clone. so much that HTC ordered them to stop distributing it. but you can still find the apk somewhere online.

Check out the Nonsensikal ROM. CPU Runs at 710 and live wallpapers work on it just fine. The developer did a very good job and its stable.

And if you did a Nandroid backup you can restore your old Sense ROM but it will be rooted.

Found a copy of Fancy Widget, exactly what I wanted thanks!

I don't fully understand the whole ROM structure. I am currently running KaosFroyo, can I load Nonsensikal on top of that or is it a replacement? The live wallpapers aren't a really big deal for me. I did not use them before I rooted because they killed the battery, but I am now getting better battery life thanks to throttling the CPU down when the screen is off so I wanted to give them a try.

Although I am generally happy with the ERIS....I am right on the edge of jumping over the root cliff based on the comments from most here on how it improves the phone.....will overclocking increase the download/browsing speed or just speed up the internal workings of the phone itself.
Thanks

1.) Download the Nonsensikal ROM to your SD card.

2.) Boot into Amons Recovery. At that point, make a choice or not if you want to do a Nandroid backup of your KaosFroyo. It's not necessary though only if you want to preserver your settings. I assume you backed up your HTC ROM after you first rooted.

3.) Do a wipe

4.) Flash the new ROM and reboot.

Yes, yes and yes.

Although the overclocking usually comes built into the ROMS.

Do it!!!

prj, that answers my question. It is a replacement for KaosFroyo and not something that gets added on top of it like the radio upgrade.

I wasn't very keen on setting the whole phone up again but having looked at the screen shots of Nonsensikal I think I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I loaded up nonsensikal this morning. I did not care for it. I guess it uses Launcher2 for running apps? It only had 3 screens where with Froyo I have five. Luckily I had done a backup and switching back was super easy.

You can configure that in the Launcher Pro settings. I think you can go up to 7.

As with all things Android, I think what is best is what you are comfortable with from an aesthetic view point. I don't care for the LauncherPro 4 icons at the bottom of the screen. I really like having the little dots to show which screen I am on and to use for navigation instead of swiping.

Now that I have fancy widget for my time/weather and I just found Simple SMS Widget for my messaging I am a happy camper and don't think I will be doing any more playing around with ROMs until the next release of Android comes out.

I greatly appreciate all the sharing that has been done here. Even though I may not have decided on using Nonsensikal I am glad I gave it a try for comparison.

you can have those little dots on launcher pro too. you can pretty much make it look exactly like ADW.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't just being stubborn and reloaded Nonsensikal. I still didn't care for LauncherPro so I did load up ADW and uninstalled LauncherPro.

I then repeated my tests and found that Live Wallpapers will preview fine but will not load. Also my Quick Profiles still FCs whenever you set a volume control in it. I'll definitely have to contact the author about that and see if they can offer any suggestions.

So besides the default of LauncherPro, does anyone have a comparison of Nonsensikal VS KaosFroyo? What are the advantages and disadvantages to these ROMs? Frankly I don't see much difference.

I found one show stopper for me. The Nonsensikal keyboard isn't the HTC keyboard that allows long press of letters for alternate characters. I installed the HTC keyboard APK file that some kind soul extracted but it won't apply in the Nonsensikal image. I know the APK is good since I have used it on my work Motorola Droid phone. I've made a backup of my Nonsensikal image but am now restoring my KaosFroyo.

Unfortunately, no 2.2 for the Eris. However, like it has been mentioned, you can flash a 2.2 ROM. I've been running 2.2 for months now.

Take a visit to the links on my sig; they'll help you run 2.2 if you want to take the leap.

Funny, I don't like the HTC keyboard, so it's presence as the only kb always bugs me.

As for the HTC_IME, the keyboard that works on your Droid will not work on the Eris because there is a different screen resolution. There is an HT_IME Lo Res that works with rooted Erises around somewhere; search around and you should find it. You may actually see somebody reference it in the nonsensikal thread on xda-developers.

First link in google search for HT_IME Lo Res yielded a result. I will DL it and reflash back to my saved image and give it a try for a full comparison. Still would like to know what the differences are between KaosFroyo and Nonsensikal Froyo. Neither seems to let me use the aquarium live wallpaper I downloaded, though each will preview it fine.

Quick question...after reading this topic, I took the plunge and decided to root my phone, and now I'm running KaosFroyo, which suddenly makes my Eris feel like a new phone! Won't have to spend 6 bills trying to buy a DroidX or Incredible...(I'll save that Gingerbread phones).

One thing I liked about the HTC contacts though, was that it allowed me to connect my friends to their facebook accounts, so that their pictures would show up. Is this possible under KaosFroyo?

Thanks!

You should be able to do that with the official Facebook app. With vanilla Android like KF, it unlocks the ability of that app to sync with your contacts.

After that, and the sync, you can then edit any friend's contact whose FB photo is not showing and choose the FB photo as the contact photo.
Facebook app, menu, settings, sync contacts.

Question for those of you who are running 2.2...
Are you able to install Adobe Flash Player?
It's the only reason I would want to go to 2.2, so if doesn't work, meh.

As far as i know its possible to install it, but it doesnt work too great. Like if you try to watch a youtube video on the normal site it will skip alot and be pretty much unwatchable. Games are iffy.
