Android 2.2

And 2.2 runs much faster than 2.1 + the browser should work much quicker than 2.1 because of the "push" technology which will be used to pre-load websites.
 
I asked HTC about this and had a reply as follows:
"Dear Mr Ellis, Thank you for your enquiry about your HTC Legend update. We are considering a Froyo upgrade for some models of our phones, but we are still analysing the impact this will have on the user experience. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. Best regards, OlivierM HTC"

So best bet is to go to HTC - Support - Customer Service - Support via e-Mail and ask yourself that way, if they get loads of people asking, they should update it, threat to leave HTC forever, that always gets them.

I had emailed customer service last evening and I got a response within a span of 6 hours (quick response). The Tech had stated that

"Dear Mr. Francis, Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns. To clarify your issue, you stated that: You want to know about the Android version. In this regard we would like to intimate you thta currently HTC Legend is running on Android 2.2 version.We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on FROYO. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet. If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site. Please go to: HTC - Support Or you can go to: HTC, select your country and then click on the Support tab. You can also call our Call Center at: 1800 11 33 77 if you have further questions. Thank you once again for your continued patronage. Best regards, Ria Maheshwari HTC"

Your right Bro, the email means that they have tried the version on Legend and its all fine....but they will release the version once the HTC sense is build accordingly.
 
Personally I don't really care as I'm happy with my phone at the moment and any new, free, features are a bonus.

I'll certainly not be throwing my toys out of the pram if it doesn't happen...

Definete 2.2 for HTC Legend from HTC support message

"Good Morning Thank you for contacting HTC At the moment we dont have official date of the relase for the new update but it is suitable for your device and soon or later it will be relased for Legend Regards Piotr HTC "
 
If I am correct, v 2.2 most important feature is the ability to store apps to the SD card. Currently, we have to make do with the phone's insanely small 384MB RAM.
