Root Android 2.3.1 / Darky's V8.01 on Captivate

Bought a used Captivate which had Android 2.2 on it.
Bluetooth voice dialing did not work, and GPS was losing connection frequently, so I went looking for other ROMs.

Went back to Android 2.1 because it has been reported you should when flashing a new ROM. GPS did not work

Out of the many ROM I picked Darky's Voodo V8.01, cannot really tell why.

To my great surprise it is Android version 2.3.1

Bluetooth voice dialing now works as it should.
I can scroll through all my folders in exchange.
GPS seems to work, need a little bit more driving time to give a heads up.
Multiple launchers.
Phone is rooted out of the box.
Lock screens can be changed.
Eye candy everywhere.
No lag anywhere.
And fast! 2.1 and 2.2 are slow as molasses compared to this baby!

You guys are wasting your time waiting for Android 2.2.

I have pictures!

its not really 2.3.1, it is 2.2.1, the dev put it in there as an easter egg kind of thing. oh and there are no performance improvements in 2.3 that are not in 2.2

well there is an official 2.3 port being worked on, and it is not included in any custom roms. and if you want to try it out, you will find out there is absolutely no gps, wifi doesnt work, the entire phone would be buggy.

most the roms now include the 2.3 theme, but it is not actually 2.3

I am also a new user on a Samsung Captivate i986 from Rogers. I have recently flashed using odin to the official new 2.2 Froyo release from rogers, However after seeing screenshots of Darky's great work i would like to update my ROM. I have followed steps i found on i believe a youtube video, however when i boot into clockwork rom manager's recovery menu after selecting to install a rom from sd card and selecting Darky's rom. Nothing happens. so i select reinstall, it starts to do something but fails and gives a verifcation error. If you could highlight how you were able to get darky's v8 working on your device I would really apprecaite it. Thank you

This is the method I use: How to: Flash Cognition on your Captivate ponack.net

Of course dropping in Darky's instead of Cog! But of course, I would flash back to stock and master clear before doing this. This is the procedure that I take when flashing.:

1. Backup everything (TiBu, pics, music, etc)
2. Flash back to stock
3. Master Clear
4. Follow instructions from above link.
5. Restore all your stuff

There are other approaches than the above link, but that is what I always use.
