Android 2.3.6

Hello. I am using my Motorola atrix 4g on 2.3.6 and there is probably 80% of apps I can't use because it says "this app is not compatible with your phones version of android".. Is there anyway to bypass this? Will flashing a custom rom fix this?.. I don't really have enough money to buy a different smartphone right now. Thanks.

If there is a ROM for Android 4.0+ available for your phone that would give you access to more apps, yes. Some apps still wouldn't work though, for example if you install a 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM you wouldn't be able to use apps requiring higher versions.

Thank you very much that helps. Also I couldn't find an active rooting method for this phone. Would you happen to know a good place to look?

With the phone being over 4 years old there probably isn't any active development, but you might find 4.0 or 4.1 ROM builds in the root forum I linked to. If not there you could check XDA.
