Android 2.3 on Samsung i551

Is there a way to update my Samsung Galaxy 551 to Android 2.3? If not, how long am I going to wait until Samsung releases their update trough Kies?

I want to be able to use the NDK on itself to develop apps. In Android 2.2, you still need to use Java(or that's how I thought it was).

I havent used it and i cant guarantee if it works or not.It's a custom mod rom so use at your own risk.

No use I would say,No wifi.
Plus the possibility of bricking phone .
I would wait for a month or so.
Optimus One is getting an update so hopefully 551 would get one too.
 
KIES !!!!.You gotta be joking.KIES is the most ridiculous software ever.It doesnt even show the KA7 update .And since Ace got the gingerbread update and the release of native gingerbread phones,Samsung has clearly made a distinction of who will get updates and who wont.Dont keep your hopes high.Samsung is more interested in gaining new customers than keeping old ones. Last Samsung phone for me .:mad:
 
Hey I was also waitin like u guyz. But then I thought any update I do from outside may make my phone just a junk box. So I recommend that u stop searchin on web about this and email the samsung customer care or service center. They will tell u if the update is available in ur country. If it is then u can go to there center and they will just take 15 minutes max and update ur phone. And it will have no problem.I just got it updated a month ago. And its workin just fine.

You cant till official update is released and 551 is not in line for official updates. So never maybe.The only guy developing on CM7 update had his laptop crashed so the project is suspended.Samsung's rfs and recovery sucks .:(

Galaxy Mini which has same hardware as 551 and it received the 2.3 update yesterday.
Galaxy Fit received it's update 3 days ago.
They also have quicker update release
551 has very few updates and it is sorely neglected by samsung.
If you have any knowledge of modding ,help us at XDA.
I am creating custom frameworks .(Check my blog)
We have to assume samsung wont give us gingerbread. :(
 
I would like to help, but I don't really have much knowledge about Java... I primarily program in C++ and my exams are pretty close, so...

A question about rooting it, though: can the process be reversed if it fails?

Rooting is not flashing .If it fails you will have the same phone.technically nothing happened.

and i found gingerbread update of galaxy 551 is also there.....try this link

Which firmware is Gingerbread ??? According to samfirmware ,551 is chopped of the update cycle.:mad:

Does anyone know if I can trust tsar3000.com? (I'm cautious when it comes to something that voids my phone's warranty and I might not be able to reverse the process of rooting).

There are the same fW's as samfirmware .No 2.3 .551 has been chopped off the update cycle .It's official and 5 new phones have also been announced .:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
 
That's a pity... I bought the phone with high hopes about being able to port level editors for my game(in c++) to it without much of an hassle :(...

Guess I'll have to learn Java or buy a new phone then ._.

You can program in eclipse easily .If you know C++ java wont be that hard. Lets hope Willing Magic of XDA ports 2.3 to 551 .Currently he has problems with init.c
