Android 2.x on Galaxy

Anyone know why they've not assigned the camera yet? Is it a very hard thing to do?

Cos really the camera was one of the main reasons I chose the Galaxy over the Hero or any other phone that was available at the time. I've been incredibly disappointed in it, quality is poor and controls are almost non-existent. I'm assuming Android 2.1 camera support is much better, so it's something i'd hope they'd be working on. Yet it seems i'm one of the few that think this a priority.

I did see musty post that he was working on trying to get the camera working but that it would likely take a long time. I don't know but would hope camera support is much better in 2.0/2.1, I know the Galaxy was one of the first to have a flash but it doesn't really seem any use on 1.5, seems to flash either too early or too late.

Drakaz just posted this on twitter...

"Merging Gaosp source code with eclair branch of cyanogen repo...flac, ad-hoc and much more ! Thanks @cyanogen !"

So I'm hoping things will start progressing quicker with GAOSP!

Bluetooth is now listed as being worked on for GAOSP :)

And apparently Musty has said...

"Camera is working in preview mode only. working on taking picture and setting antibanding,effects,whitebalance,... settings. video recording will be missing without h/w accelerated video encoding.

I just wish they'd hurry up damn it :D

What is the problem with "h/w accelerated video encoding", does anybody here knows?

I read that he removed 3D gallery because 3D acceleration (too slow).

Does galaxy i7500 supports 3D acceleration?

Michael, that's great news though and we can hardly complain. It's just a shame it's so much work to get this working. You'd really think Google would work harder with their partners to ensure everybody has the latest and greatest version of the OS on their phones.

Yes it does! But it is not working without proper drivers!

BTW, what are the main differences between these two??? Tnx.

Well, musty rom have google apps installed, against gaosp. But gaosp have live wallpaper, 3D gallery working, (but very slowly).

I haven't tried the musty rom, but the improve of the battery on gaosp is quite well (no perfect, a couple a days without chargin).

By way, I see on gaosp features wiki:

Google Apps Can login to Google Account Pass Need Nexus G.apps
Google Apps Can open up mobile gmail Pass Need Nexus G.apps
Google Apps Gmail displays properly Pass Need Nexus G.apps
Google Apps Calender app can sync to Google Account Pass Need Nexus G.apps

Anybody knows how to get google nexus apps?

getting closer...

great work by all involved i must say

but i was hoping this would be released before i get my N1

its not looking good for that

GAOSP was the one reason i was going to keep my galaxy but
samsung has left too bad a taste in my mouth so off to the nexus one

tho i am still looking forward to this rom as i will be keeping my galaxy as
a backup phone

Keep up the good work peoples

SamsungFirmware

Samsung-firmwares brings a lot of exclusive firmwares. (S8500, I8520, I5700 I7500) Just wait :)

I have read it on Samsung-firmwares twitter.
I don't know which android version does it takes.

even if samsung were to release a 2.1 update (which we ALL know better)

i think given samsungs attitude i would be more likely to use GAOSP

too little too late samsung, my nexus one is on its way. but i'm gonna hold on to my galaxy to see what the future holds for it. mustymod and gaosp look very promising, i'm excited to see them develop.
