Android 5.0 Lolipop announced - Update in coming weeks [Screenshots from new developer preview]

Screenshot shows the old Messaging icon (this app comes with the developer preview) and hangouts (had to download seperately). I have yet to find the Messaging icon that the promotional media shows on the homescreen in Lollipop, which I believe you are referring to in your question. That promotional version of the icon is what will probably come with the final release.

Yeah, the one I've seen is white and blue on 5.0

Correct, its the updated messenger app. For whatever reason it wasn't included in the developer preview.

Messenger and Hangouts offer users choice, each have their own benefits. Hangouts work great for cross platform (web, iOS, Android) and cross medium communications (video, voice, messaging, SMS). Messenger will be specially designed to be a quick and easy way to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on Android; more to come (Nexus 6 will come with both apps).

Given encryption takes an hour or more, I'm enabling it now to hopefully save time and aggravation moving to Lollipop OTA

Will I get all the new wallpapers for 5.0 on my N5?

Yes, you should.

Only new devices will come with encryption turned on by default. most likely, encryption will not turn itself on during the OTA, and you will have to turn it on manually after receiving the OTA

Well my Nexus 7 has been encrypting for 2 hours and has 3% to go. And there's practically nothing on it. Wonder how long my N5 will take.

Bit miffed you can't have a pattern lock any more.

Are you sure theres no pattern lock? I can't check since I'm no longer on the developer preview - I need MMS working.

I don't lock my devices anyway, so I won't bother with encryption either.

I actually would have expected encryption to be more challenging on a Nexus 7 (if it is the old 2012 version). Everything on the Nexus 7 is slower. Nandroid backups take way longer. I would expect the Nexus 5 to be pretty zippy.

I'm basically in the same camp as RXpert. No lock, no encryption.

Everything I read says it's still in Lollipop, and I'm hoping it will be.

Just curious why you don't lock and encrypt?

Having seen someone mugged of their phone whilst on a call outside a McDonalds in the Midlands this week, I'm glad mine has a lock set.

The data on my device isn't anything absolutely confidential, and in addition I could wipe/locate the device remotely anyway. The added inconvenience of a pin or pattern isnt worth it for me in everyday life.

If im traveling in a new city or a late night on the town I will sometimes enable TimePIN, but thats not on a normal basis.

Fixed my MMS issues and am back on the preview now.

Pattern and pin are both still options

Also just to add to my last response. If I had an android wear device I would totally use a lockscreen Pin due to lollipops new trusted devices feature that bypasses the pin/pattern whenever the device is in range.

That would lower the everyday "hassle" and make it worthwhile.

The Face Unlock now works the same way... and it works really well. I may actually use that.

I actually love the trusted device feature, it worked pretty amazing with moto 360 but since I didn't use it much (I was just fooling around to see what they changed on it), I'm not sure if it has some sort of range limit, (I know it would automatically lock up if it couldn't find the watch due to Bluetooth limitations) but I'm talking about across the table or something, I thought I was supposed to be like both devices need to be a foot away or less for it to disable the secure lock, otherwise it'll prompt a lock, but like I said I didn't check it much so I'm not sure, otherwise I think it's quite an amazing feature c:

Nexus 6 ROM port gives a closer look at Lollipop features and apps | Android Central

The ambient mode looks like it could be cool (a la Motorola Active Display) and since they got it to run on the N4, perhaps we will be able to get a version of it on the N5 with the 5.0 update?

Since itll be a part of AOSP, it's very likely we'll see it ported. It may not have any needed hardware support to keep any battery drain low, but I'm sure that wont stop ROMS from incorporating it as an option

For those who are on the latest developer lollipop preview and also using Pushbullet, I am requesting help:

Hey everyone, I'm working with the latest developer preview and the most recently updated version of Pushbullet that should be compatible with Lollipop. I'm wondering if anyone has been having issues dismissing notifications that come up on the phone. Previous versions of Pushbullet would never show desktop notifications while the newest version does.

I will dismiss from the desktop but the notification stays on the phone. I've searched the net for similar issues but can't find any. Thanks for your help!

I haven't experienced this issue. Have you contacted the developer using the link in the play store listing for the app?
