Android 6.0 Marshmallow is Here !! Post your findings

Here's a pretty good review of what's new and the changes included in Android 6.0 on the Moto X Pure Edition:

Been running MM OTA for about a week now, and am now getting a couple of specific apps crashing repeatedly. Have wiped the cache but that has not helped. Tried reinstalling, but again no help. I'd really prefer not to have to factory reset. Any ideas what can be done?

Goal Live Scores and Car Home Ultra.

For the former, I've uninstalled and found an alternate app.

For the latter, I'd like to find a solution. I've emailed the dev, but no reply yet...

How To Take Screenshots With Google Now On Tap

I read the simple instructions:
  • Press and hold the Home button until Google Now on Tap appears.
  • Tap the share button in the bottom left-hand corner.
  • A screenshot will be taken and the share menu will appear.
It wouldn't work because I had no share button in the bottom left-hand corner. Then I realized that I needed to update Google Now. After the update I had a share button in the bottom left-hand corner and I was able to take a screenshot.

I'm not familiar with either app. I hope the developer of Car Home Ultra replies and is able to fix his app so that it works with MM.

Noticed as of late been not getting Gmail notifications, does not seem to be always syncing. Anyone else having this issue. I did check all settings, I know I have not changed anything other then the MM Update

My notifications show up just fine. Have you tried clearing the Gmail cache?

Sure have, my guess usually when this happens, it's usually caused by a 3rd party app that's been installed, so I'll have to back track and see what I have installed recently.

Before I do a FR, anyone else having Gmail sync issues. Seems to be happening when the screen is off. If I open the screen and open Gmail and swipe down the emails come in. I've checked all settings I could think of and don't see anything out of place. I have also cleared cache in recovery. So if anyone else has any suggestions let me know before I FR.

I just uninstalled the last Gmail update and reinstalled, let's see if that works.

I assume FR means Factory Data Reset.

Did you try running in Safe Mode eliminating all apps that you added without uninstalling them? Did you ever do a Factory Data Reset after upgrading to Marshmallow?

Yes that means a Factory reset

I did not do a FDR once I upgraded to MM, just a recovery cleared cache, I will not do a Safe Mode process, last time I did that with my 2014 edition it messed up my phone, for a few apps, and other settings.

Just easier to do a FDR if I have no choice. For now uninstalling the Gmail update and installing it back, seems to have been working, I also installed a 2nd 3rd party app to test and see "MyMail", I kind of like that app for now, so we will see. I'll keep you posted, but if there are any other suggestions in the meantime keep them coming ;) Thanks

Thank you for the feedback. My personal absolutes ... debated by some ... reinforced repeatedly ...
  • Minot system upgrade ... always do a Wipe Cache Partition as soon as possible
  • Major system upgrade ... like Kit Kat to Lollipop ... always do a Factory Data Reset as soon as possible (The jury was out on Lollipop to Marshmallow. I'm guessing the Factory Data Reset requirement remains.)
I always download apps from Play Store after the Factory Data Reset. I have had some problems prevented by doing this in the past where an app was not computable with the new release and was not downloaded. Those problems would have never been detected if the apps were just restored from a backup.

The objective ... it is highly likely that you will do the Factory Data Reset ... do it soon when it can be scheduled at the least inconvenient time.

FDR done, so let's see what happens in the nest few days.

I also assume, if I have the phone set to be in DND mode at night until early AM, that those notifications won't come in either ?? Do I have to all the active display shows those during the DND mode hours, like Gmail and Text ??

OK, it's been a full say, and still having issues. Still trying to narrow it down. I though it was maybe only when I put the device in DND mode that I stop getting the active notifications, but yesterday at work, I would have by browser on my PC open, and would get email notifications, and on my device, I was not getting them. So now I am even more baffled. I'm going to bring my tablet to work with me today and test both, I've never run into this issue before, but reading many threads when I searched, seems like others are having similar issues with Gmail and also Inbox since the MM update. So I will continue to monitor this a report back.

Did you restore apps from backup after the Factory Data Reset or did you re-install them from Play Store?

Installed all from the Play store. Long and tedious, LOL

I think I have narrowed the issue, it seems to be a Gmail syncing issue when hooked up to WiFi when the screen is closed. I decided leave WiFi off most of the day and emails have come though every-time. So it is definitely an issue with WiFi and Marshmallow on certain devices. The same issue happens when I'm connect at home WiFi or work WiFi, so now I just need to figure out a solution so I don' end up using all my Data, LOL

brilliant! I finally made the jump to MM, and it changed literally nothing important so far, (except for what I will describe later) since I have custom screens, dialers, and nova launcher.

1: The default font is a little crisper
2: The overall speed of the phone seems to have increased
3: The overall battery speed seems to have increased
4: A problem with my text messages getting delayed an then all coming at once during phone calls, has disappeared
5: I now feel WAY cooler than others, and I am now "Hip" and "with it"

Thanks, Chief.
