Help Android Browser Doesn't delete Gmail Mail

I'm finding the 2.2 browser doesn't delete mail or archive from Gmail when I'm using it. Although the mail disappears from the list while I'm using the Android browser, when I connect to Gmail on my computer all the mail I thought I had deleted is still there. Anyone else having this problem? Using HTC Desire.

That's actually what I'm using. Guess I didn't phrase it correctly. Gmail app doesn't delete or archive email.
