Help android contacts don't appear on gmail?

I've had some problems with my samsung galaxy s2 and had to send it off to the manufacturer.

Before sending it off i made sure it had synced all my contacts which it said it had.

Now i look in GMail and it is only showing contacts i added a very long time ago and from what im reading your phone contacts sync is not necessarily the same as your gmail contacts?

Does anyone know how to get my contacts list that my phone synced, considering i wont have access to my phone for a couple weeks (im currently using my old iphone). Most of the threads i've read have shown how to back up the contacts etc while you still have your phone, but google must sync them to somewhere in their system, i just havent worked out how to access them without my phone.

If you went into menu>settings>accounts & sync and sync'ed there, all it will do is sync gmail contacts, not phone contacts. If you used some other method it may have saved them to a file on your phone, but for them to sync to the cloud you'd have to have some place to sync to.
 
Shouldn't syncing be in the contacts? Go to contacts, tap on menu, and choose sync, or choose more and find more accounts where can sync?

But won't know where the contacts would be if not shown in gmail. Did you backup with Kies, or backup through the contacts because there is an option for that to create a backup and placed in phone USB storage or microSD.
 
My phone has already been wiped and sent off.

I checked backups where lunatic said - settings - > accounts and sync, it said contacts were backed up so i assumed that my contacts were backed up. I didnt realise it differentiated between phone contacts and gmail contacts.
 
After read this post now I realize phone contact are not same as google contact. May I know how to back up phone contact ?
 
Either use Kies or go to the contacts, tap on the menu and select to backup the contacts. You get a backup file that can be placed in the USB storage or microSD.

What's the difference between your google contact and your phone contact?
