Android Desire: Need simple text editor and can't find it

Problem solved. Went back to the thread root (Android Desire) and logged in again and now the Thanks appears. However - this might be the source of the problem - when I simply refresh the page to see whether anyone has responded to my question or posting the Thanks icons disappear. Looks like a bug in the forum software.

Windows 7 64-bit /Firefox 3.6.10
Did you check the "remember me" function when you logged in?

I use AK Notepad, free, quick and no-frills
Still trying out a few of the apps suggested here (including AK notepad). At the moment 3banana has the edge for me because I can take photos with it (as can Extensive Notes) and have discovered that I use that in practice.
Will report back, maybe write a review, ha ha.

Well, I'm not finding what I want. Just a simple text editor like notepad AND WITH SEARCH ability. There are many good looking editors out there, but none I've found that will search? WTF?

Txtpad is decent - its basically notepad for android, handles .txt files, which is what I use it for.

If youre looking for some kind of "organiser" type note/list maker like you find on every other phone under the sun then I like colornote, it has all sorts of funky options.

Okay here is one! First I've found that includes search and it works great (if a bit slow....maybe that's why none of them have search??)

Thank you Mushhushshu!!

Yes and no. I'm greatly enjoying my Desire and am impressed by the variety of solutions/apps available. However, as a security-conscious person I am concerned that at this early stage of Android's career there is no easy/reliable way to find out if a given app is clean. In the Market the apps have notes in red saying that, for example "This app accesses the Internet", or "This app accesses your Contacts" where I cannot see any reason why the app should do any of these things. It is, in most cases, difficult to find out WHY the app wants to do these things.
The bottom line for me is that I don't store any data (e.g. in Contacts) which I don't want others to see or steal. But then I'm careful by nature. Others are less so.
I agree. I had a problem recently with the Zedge app wanting access to my contacts. I emailed the developer and expressed my concerns relating to privacy and asked why the app needed to use my contacts list. I received a nice reply within an hour, complete with an explanation. A good result.

I intend to do this with all the apps I install in future if they ask for permissions that don't seem appropriate. Google should alter the market to force devs to note why each type of permission is required for their app. Of course, this assumes the developers are telling the truth. ;)

I think a lot of apps have this as a matter of course because the devs DONT switch off the settings in whatever environment they are using. In other words - badly coded!

Here is a list I found on the t'interweb of all the stuff you are likely to see but probably dont know what they are...Thanks goes to Nahbeel Ahmed who wrote it up :D
