Root Android exasperates me sometimes

Ok so I got Gingervillian all up and running again last night after my little camera corruption issue.
All sorted!

Well nearly....

Handcent notifications no longer flash the LED.
Always used to work, has never decided not to work before - until now for no reason at all.


Sigh....

What's next?
I love Android but sometimes even the tiny little things can be really annoying because they just should bloody work!

*goes back to rocking and crying in corner*
 
Now Gmail LED notifications have stopped working as well.
They worked earlier this evening...

So I don't seem to have any LED notifications at all, is there a setting in GV I'm missing that's over-riding my app settings?
Also anyone else having problems with gmail.
I delete mail on the phone in gmail app and the notification still shows unread mail (no unread mails in inbox on phone at all) - check on PC and mail is still there, delete it on PC and notification item on phone goes.

fecking thing sometimes - I may hate Apple but generally their phones just work.
I guess it wouldn't be much fun if my phone just always did what I wanted would it ;)
 
Nope it wouldn't. Besides, then it WOULD be a iPhone. Say what you will about Apple, but their products ARE reliable.
 
Gmail does that sometimes often after a restore. Wipe data on the app and all should be well.

In regards to led, could be handcent messing it up
 
LOL you guys root your phone, put Gingervillain on it and complain that your phone doesn't work? Sigh. Everything works just fine in Gingervillain.

Yeah I know, funny how I said it DID work but stopped now.


Actually I found out today it does work... kind of.
Only when it's not charging and only in amber.
But oh well - something is better than nothing and not the end of the world either.

Deleted gmail data and it seems to be syncing a bit better now - not instant but better.

Handcent crossed my mind to but tried it with a fresh flash of 1.9 and no manu1.4 or custom theme and had the same problem with gmail and android messaging.

Also did a restore and same problems.

Although the LEDs do work when phone isn't charging but only in amber as I found out at work today.
 
Handcent LED flash hasn't worked on any AOSP roms, I don't remember it working in CM6 or OpenDesire either, only worked in Sense roms.

Hmmm
How strange - never noticed it not working on AOSP before.
It certainly worked fine in Sense, I could have sworn it used to in GV as well.


Oh well, I'm probably wrong then - wouldn't be the first time ;)
 
I'm using go sms and was using handcent before and have always had my blue LED for sms whilst on gingervillain. I know this doesn't help you, but the LED does work on aosp
 
I thought I'd seen people complaining about only 2 colours on Gingervillain and others talking about getting blue with handcent, so I also think it does work. Its a "think" though, not a "know".

I was sure it had worked before on GV.
There must be a setting conflicting somewhere or maybe something to do with profiles.
 
LEDmeknow works perfectly.
Yay! Now I have different coloured LED notifications again, which is handy for work where my phone will be in silent mode all of the time :)

Had to go out today and my phone was spamming me with notification noises.
had no idea what it was till I realised that I'm suddenly getting noises for everything that appears in the notification and status bar, including picking up new wireless networks and placing the phone on charge etc.

So LEDmeknow seems to have unlocked/fixed/enabled notifications all round.
Had to go into wireless settings to tell it not to notify me everytime something happens ;)
From no notifications to too many hehe
 
D'oh, installing software is fun now.
Every % increase sets off a notification alert now complete with noises.
Sigh....

Removed and reinstalled LEDmeknow and it seems to be functioning again.
No alerts when downloading software and LED/ ringtones seem to work as they should.
Although it doesn't always switch back to Green or amber for charging/ uncharged unless I undock it.
That's good enough for me
 
Ace, ledmeknow finally works for me so I can get blue led.

Gmail vibrated though which I don't want

It's better than nothing but I have found it a little flubbery at times.
Especially coming on and off charge.
Still it'll do until it gets fixed in GV I guess.
