Android for your SAAB?

Don't you think it's in a rather awkward location to be used as a navigation device though? It's dangerous to take your eyes off the road to look at the map.

As novox77 said, most vehicles have their navigation system located in the center console area.

Sasb has a long history of being very safety conscious with their vehicles. I don't see this being an exception. As much of a potential distraction iQon system can cause, I can also see some very cool possibilities.

You can have Google maps on there not only functioning as your GPS/navigation tool, you can expand the layers and avoid traffic areas and find alternate routes. Or look for restaurants using Places. You can search by voice to eliminate any tactile interaction while keeping your hands on the wheel.

How about the system reading levels of your gas and notifying you that "hey, you're kind of low, you better fill up" and oh by the way, here are some locations that supply your particular gas. I have a Diesel 2 car and I'm very conscious of being someplace where there is no filling station available that carries my fuel.

How about having a music player of your choice on the device so you never have to install CD's or worry about plugging in your iPod?

The list goes on...

A month back, wife and I were already discussing when we'd see a center console powered by Android, or at the very least, let the screen just be a touchscreen monitor for a smartphone so it could be used for any purpose we wanted it for...

Great that SAAB et al are taking the initiative here. I do see this becoming mainstream in a few years or so. And Android is the perfect platform for this.
