Android Gingerbread

There has been been the announcement for Android's Next release after Froyo

Think Verizon will wait to update the INC with Gingerbread? What about rooting? How quick do you think they will patch yet another new version to the INC?

Google isn't giving the developers any time to get up and running! haha

Google has stated that they're going to start going to one major update a year. They didn't specify when, but it's either going to be after Froyo or Gingerbread. I would expect that if Gingerbread was that close they would hold off on Froyo, so I'm guessing Gingerbread will be in approximately a year.

They are actually starting the once a year release of updates after Gingerbread. I would expect it to come out within 3-4 months after Froyo is officially released.

Verizon won't wait.

HTC already pledged that the Desire, Evo and Incredible will be the first HTC phones with 2.2. They also said that all HTC phones capable of 2.2 will have it by end of 2010.

I'm hoping you are right, I really do. But I've heard that Froyo isn't playing nice with Sense and that the N1/Droid/Non-SenseUI phones would be receiving it first...

IMO, updates to HTC devices with the sense ui will always lag a bit with updates. I really like sense UI, but it adds another layer of complexity. Our DIncs are supposed to get Froyo in the "2nd half of 2010." Gingerbread probably won't even be released until the very end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. So maybe the DInc gets gingerbread in mid 2011???
