android IS doomed because open source sux

Just because you don't agree with someone's opinion, doesn't make them a troll. let's keep this on topic and relevant please.

Also, I suggest you re-read the rules before correction peoples grammar. Unless the post is totally unreadable, there is no need to call anyone on it.
 
Open source is much more viable in phones than in the PC world. Why? It is simple. Most people want two things in their smartphone, MS Exchange support and MS Office support. If people get those two things, they are happy. Because Android is open source, it allows a much greater chance at customization. People like customization. Can you do that on your PC? Sure can, but most people do not want to mess with their PC. Because MS has such a stranglehold on the market, it would be a little silly to write a for-profit business application for any other OS. Think about it, most people wait and wait to upgrade their PC to a better one, but those same people are the ones running out to buy a new cellphone as soon as their contract runs out. Why? Because for many people, a cellphone is an extension of who they are. Imagine a world where they can choose how their phone's interface looks, runs, and contains. Many people would love to have the option of infinite customization. Once again, because for many, their cellular phones are a reflection of themselves. That is why open source is better suited for the cellular world.
 
to those who call me troll: you react with your passions for android not with your rationality towards the subject of this thread.

to those who took offense over the the whole communism label: please realize that it is not only unfair to me to take my statements out of context, as it makes me look like a ******, but it is also unfair to you because it makes you look like a ****** who does not know how to read. i did not say that open source is a communist method. what i said was that open source shares with communism the characteristic of sounding great on paper and horrible in daily application. get it now? get it?

i stand by my statements that fragmentation is a real (not exagerated) problem with android, and that android at 2.1 is still geeky and ugly. i stand by my statement that the android market is a joke and that android does not recognize your input in terms of selecting default SRAs. android is not intuitive and that the multiple custom additions of manufacturers along with carrier and manufacturer lethargy prevent timely OS updates that are crucial to the user experience. blame it on HTC or t-mo, the fact remains that android 2.1 came and is now about to go away and yet the mt3g is still in the world of 1.6. lame lame lame!!!! where are the free updates? lame!!! oh wait, u dont get an update 4 ur unrooted phone because u have to actually buy a new phone to get a new OS version. like microsoft, to get a new version, u must toss a couple of bengies...lame .. it is also lame to say all phones will get updated eventually. that's like saying that the sun will die out eventually. again, count ur blessings palm cannot produce a good device because the little humble webos 1.4 runs circles around android 2.1. count u blessings that the iphone is not on verizon and sprint. android is like an opportunistic infection, infecting the host only when immune defenses are down. same with android, being marketable only when there's a lack of a better option (a good webos device or an iphone)...

A "better option'" is matter of opinion. Your opinion of android makes me wonder why you even post here, since you don't seem like you want to be convinced that android will do well and would rather have any other smart phone, which is totally fine. The people posting here probably adore android though, and you only seem to want to aggravate them.

And in regards to your statement about fragmentation, yes android is beginning to have that problem, but is it going to be doomed? I don't believe so, ADS and Fonseca in particular have given good reasons as to why android will do well. People buy a new android phone to get the latest part of the OS, and you can be sure as hell if apple's os changed as fast and drastically as android's did and they had to put it on a new device people would buy that product too. But apple hasn't done that, so people can keep their 2G's and 3G's and be content. In my opinion, the fragmentation of android is showing how fast it's keeping up with new hardware. Which is a good thing for the os, bad for people who want the latest tech.

It's totally fine that you think other smart phones are better, and I respect most of your arguments. You should probably change your sig if you want to be taken more seriously and not be treated like a troll.

perhaps we should have an anti trolling rule. Why are you defending the trolls? Now this is my opinion, but it seems your more interested in defending trolls and punishing the android supporters. Now that's not a nice combo on an ANDROID forum. While other opinions are welcome, trolling is not. Just look at the guys sig. He's only here to start trouble, I see it, and countless others see. Why don't you? I know your trying to keep things "equal" but there's a limit to this. How do you expect people to come and get help, and help the movement of android, if trolls are allowed to litter the site with false propoganda, purposely posting mis-information, and the like.

Now most of us came here for help, to learn about android, or to help the community in some way. How can we do that if this trolling is infecting our forum. Instead people like numus, zefie, and myself are punished, and scorned for our disdain of these trolls. I've tried the report feature. Hasn't done a thing. And when some of us spend hours trying to improve android, we grow tired of trolls mis-informing new people purposely.

I find it ironic someone who has 3 posts and is blatently trolling gets defended while I've seen people with 500+ posts genuinely trying to help others be punished. Seems a bit backwards to me, really. And I know its a lot to do to monitor all these posts, and your doing it for free to boot, so we appreciate it.

So there's an obvious problem, and often the simple solution is indeed that, the simple solution. Get rid of the trolls. They are starting the fire, they are adding to the fire. Where do you put out the fire? The base.

Ok so this rant turned out much longer than I expected, and if you took the time to read it, thankyou.
