I have been using your Live Scores app for a while now. I made the switch from the ESPN app and have never looked back. However, I do have some suggestions to improve your software. Please excuse me if these things have been mentioned before as I only scanned through a lot of the other suggestions and either didn't see them or would like to reiterate what these people have suggested.
At first, I was upset that there was no score update widget that came with your app, but you quickly fixed this complaint by adding the score update feature. I would still love to be able to set some kind of an alert tone to go along with the vibration of the score updates. Perhaps even a custom tone for every team I am subscribed to, and a default tone for unassigned teams.
For years, before I purchased my Android, I had been getting score update alerts from Yahoo! via text message through their yahoo mobile services. I was able to finally cancel this text messages thanks to your program, but was kind of upset to find that there weren't as many score update options. For example, when I wanted to know the score of a baseball game, I used to get text updates at the end of every inning (or the end of every 3 innings, depending on the game) regardless of scoring. So, if a team scores 8 runs in an inning (or football team scores 21 points in a quarter), that update would only be sent to me at the end of the inning/quarter unless I also choose to have "score updates" selected. The updates at the end of an inning help quell the "is the app working?" worries when there is a game where nobody scores for a while. Having the ability to customize these alerts would be great. People might want the ability to see the status of the game in their alerts window, updated every 30 seconds or every minute. They will know how many outs there are or what yardline the ball is on without having to open the app.
I notice that an option for Nascar updates/results is missing. I notice you addressed adding additional sports in your original posting. I hope Nascar is on this list - that would be great.
I would love to see team/league logos next to the team/league names. It would make it easier to pick out a certain game in a list of 20. I realize there are probably copyright issues here, but since you are backed by Yahoo!, itmight not be as big of a deal as I am thinking.
One small annoyance that I have had when using your program is that the "Select Sport" button on the baseball menu is located in the center of the bottom row. When I switch to NFL, that button is located in the bottom row, but it now appears on the left side. Just a small user interface thing, but can be quite annoying.
Another small annoyance is that there is no "today" button to use when I find myself scrolling through next weekend's games and want to quickly return to today's listings. The today button should disappear or turn a different color when I am on the current day - this would help confirm things for the user who has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. *ahem* That would be a great little shortcut to have. Also, the day of the week should appear next to the date (Sun, Mon, Tues, etc.). This way, I know I am looking at the right day's scores.
I would love to see a "homepage" that the program can be set to load when I open the app. This would be in addition to having the option to set something like "NFL" or MLB" as your default start page. What the homepage would do is feature scores of my favorite teams and teams that I have alerts set for, regardless of what sport/league they are in. I will give you an example of why this would be a great improvement. Say my favorite hockey team and my favorite baseball team are both playing games at the same time. I want to follow along with both games using the Live Score app. I currently need to open the Live Score app, select "NHL", scroll to my team and open that. When I want to see what is happening during the other game, I need to press "menu>select sport>MLB", then find the game on the list and select it. Want to switch back? Well... you see what I am getting at. If the homepage was implemented, I would be able to follow both games from that window. If I want more details on one of the games, I could tap it. Want to switch? Easy... press the back button and tap the other game.
In addition to this last request, would it be possible to add some kind of a "tabbed browsing" type of feature, so you could follow more than one game at a time. When you are following more than one active game, the tabs would appear on the top or side (with the current scores on them) - you can just press one or the other to switch between games that you are viewing.
I would love to see the added ability to view the upcoming schedule of a certain team (or all of my favorite teams on the same schedule). Perhaps the option of a list view or a calendar view could be used for this?
In addition to that, it would be nice to see what TV networks (home, away, national) are carrying the game you are looking at.
Since you are backed by Yahoo - I would love to see a link to the article that Yahoo has on that game. Either a pregame preview or a postgame writeup would be a great option to have. If the browser has to launch for this type of thing, so be it, but I would love to see the ability to view this text from within the app. The pregrame preview article would be the default thing you see when you select a game that hasn't started yet. The postgame recap would be the first thing that you see when you select a game that has already ended.
One additional note that I have which isn't a suggestion, but a possible bug you might want to look into. On Sunday, I was following along with the Eagles/49ers NFL game. 49ers was listed on the top scoreboard properly, but every time there was an update on the last play or field position, the 49ers were referred to as "TEN." For example, it would say: "Ball on TEN 32 yard line" instead of "Ball on SF 32 yard line." I must have checked myself about 10 times, because I thought I had selected the "Tennessee Titans" game instead of the Eagles/49ers.
Thanks a lot for your time in developing this app and reading these comments. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback on my suggestions. I will certainly let you know if I have any more suggestions for your application.
