Android Live Scores

i dont mean to be a pain in the butt. lol just something that popped in my head while scrolling through my teams...

1) are we going to get a UI enhancement, if so, when? the current one is pretty boring, and awfully ugly. the app gets the job done though, thats all i can really ask for

2) what about team logos on the league overview screen when you first open the app AND inside the game box-score screen??

3) and lastly, wouldn't it be sweet that as soon as we open the app, it opens up to ALL of our favorite teams viewed on the same screen?? would be pretty sweet.

All good suggestions. These have been mentioned before in the forum and we're talking about them here in the office, but we do have to prioritize. We're doing some restyling now and the next release is planned to include a widget which I think you guys are really going to like.

We're behind schedule for our planned release, the GPS bug I mentioned earlier threw a wrench in the works and set us back quite a bit, but we're heading in the right direction again.

As for favorite teams showing on startup - the widget will help fill this void as you would have your favorite teams on one of your home screens and could keep up to date with those. As for creating a real favorite teams page in the app, that will have to wait for a later release - currently the app is geared towards one sport at a time - to support multiple teams from multiple sports will take some re-engineering but it is something want to do.

in watching tonights flyers' butt whoopin of the hurricanes, under the "plays" tab it shows the first goal of the game as

"PHI - 5:37 - Scott Hartnell scores a goal assisted by Ville Leino and Danny Briere"

^that goal was dissallowed, but still shows up under the plays tab, which also throws off the score under the plays tab @ 9-1. the main screen that shows the time remaining shows the correct score though, 8-1. i wish it was 9-1 :)

Yeah that happens from time to time. The data we get from our provider sometimes contains errors. We'll call them on it and try to get it corrected but sometimes its too late.

Mine are the same colors, almost impossible to read, but I thought it was because of my theme so I never mentioned it. Guess I am not the only one with the problem

So I now have a different ROM and theme, and this problem was in fact due to the theme, it is easily readable now.

Yesterday I turned on notifications for my Cowboys game since I couldn't watch it. There was no game start notification again (same for Vandals game on Sat). Through the first quarter and into the second there were some score notifications I didn't get and some were pretty late. It seemed to speed up as the game went along though. By the 4th quarter I would get a score notification before I even heard it listening live on NFL mobile app. This was the first game I have had notifications on while listening or watching so I could compare notification to real time scoring.

If there was an audible alert and notifications worked as good the whole game as they did the fourth quarter yesterday this app would be perfect for me.

I was also watching that game live (Giants fan though) and had my phone with me.

I don't recall for sure, but I don't think I got the start of game notifications. I probably wasn't watching my phone as closely as you, but I don't recall getting any notifications very late, but it's possible.

Audible alert is already coded and will be included in the next release ;)

Do you have a timeframe for the release and is it a default notification or will we be able to choose?

I am eagerly awaiting this update, and already have a notification tone picked out to use if possible.

Thanks for all your work you are putting into this app.

Aaron, is there a way to disable default alerts when they start for a game? For example, I had alerts set up for a team where I may miss some of their games. However I was able to watch this game and there was no way to stop the alerts once the game started. It would be nice if you could have alerts set up by default, and then when you look at an individual game you can turn them on or off in there (they'd be on by default, you could disable them for just that game while preserving alerts for all of their other games).

Does that make any sense? lol

Here's the specific example:
-I have score alerts set up for OSU basketball
-I start getting a ton of alerts for a game I'm watching
-I open that game up and go to "alerts" - there is nothing selected because it only shows manual alerts from what I gather. Instead those boxes should be checked because I have alerts for that team on by default. Then I would be able to simply uncheck the alerts boxes and I'd stop getting alerts for that game while still getting them for the rest of their games
-I then went to disable the alerts for the team in the options tab, but they would not stop! There is no way to stop the default alerts once they start for a game from what I gather?

For now its the default notification sound, you can turn it on or off but for now you cannot change the sound.

We are considerably behind schedule for this release, the gps bug did a bang up job on our schedule. We're considering just doing a patch release for the gps bug (the patch would include the audible alert but not include the widget - though the widget would follow soon).

Well you have a few options.
You can disable all alerts from the Alert Settings view.
You can disable game-alerts from the game view.
You can disable team-alerts from the team view.

If you subscribe to a team-alert, you're right you'd have uncheck that team temporarily. I see how this is a usability issue and I will add it to our list of bugs.

One thing I don't quite understand... If you disabled the alerts for the team, they should have stopped unless you also had the opposing team subscribed as well.

For example, if you are subscribed to TEAM-A and you are subscribed to TEAM-B and teams A and B play each other, you would continue to get alerts as long as either team is subscribed.

Please double check and let me know if this is the case, otherwise its a bigger bug that I thought.

I installed this on Monday night because I was at the Bruins and the BF had a FF player in the Monday night game.

3g reception wasn't great at the Garden and I think I didn't have all the options set up correctly in Live Score, so any updates I received seemed sporadic.

HOWEVER, last night, everything worked perfectly. When the Bruins scored their first goal, my alert sounded and the notification was in the bar.

I didn't really understand how it worked, but the Celtics were also playing (I didn't know that) but at the end of the game I got an alert to their score, which I wasn't expecting.

This is an awesome app! It's great that it turns on by itself to send the alerts, because I did not have the app active. I guess it self-started? Which is way cool!

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Heads up everyone, we'll be releasing 1.4.6 tomorrow morning which we're considering a patch release to fix the GPS bug in 1.4.5. This patch release coincidentally has some UI updates and a new news page with selectable news sources, etc. More info on this tomorrow when we do the official release. This release WILL NOT include the widget. I'm really sorry for falling short on this one, this GPS bug really took us by surprise and threw us off. Widget will be in the next full-release guaranteed.

This thread should be a required reading for aspiring software engineers and project managers on how to work with your users/customers. As a dev I am amazed at the quantity and quality of the communication by both the product team and users. Kudos.

Technically, you're not falling short what-so-ever. You're pushing an update to help YOUR users/customers get the best out of your project. Customers brought this to your attention and you fixed it for them. We're grateful that you just hear our opinions and feedback. Great job!!

Aaron, even though I had alerts for Ohio State basketball unselected I was still getting them :(

The only way I could get them to stop was to use the option to delete the alerts for all teams :(

I can try to recreate it tomorrow during their game.

Okay I will try to recreate it too.

Can you do me a favor and check to see if you were subscribed to alerts for both teams that were playing and possibly only unsubscribed from one of them?

Thanks

Just updated. A couple of quick notes that I have.

I see there's an option to locate via wifi and not use the gps at all. That seems good.

Not a big fan of the news section. The blue on black is hard to read, but the bigger issue that I see is to read the news article, it just opens my browser up to the page. I guess if I wanted to read news, I'd use a specific news app or go to sites in my browser. Either way, not a big deal, people can elect to use it or not use it, I just don't find that much value in it. Maybe as I see it more, I'll wind up using it more. With stuff like that, in general, I just prefer being able to read the articles inside the app.

I think there's maybe one minor bug, not sure if it's intentional or not. When I'm at scoreboard screen and I hit back, I get taken to the black screen with the big S and Yahoo! Sportacular. I can't do anything on that screen at all. The only option is to hit back again to exit. Why is that screen even there?

Either way, good job overall. Love the program.

Excited to see the widget in the next release (hopefully soon).

Yeah, this was a bit of a hurried release due to the GPS bug.

The "S" page is only there when you back out of the app, I've known about it for awhile but it hasn't been a priority to remove it yet as it's not so easy to remove, but I do want to remove it.

The previous news page was a webview. Basically just a webpage inside the app which we had little control over. The new news page is native so we can do a lot more with it in the future - for example, now you can filter your news sources.

i love the new update. great job! i like where you're going with the UI restyling stage, hopefully more changes to come though!???? (example: the in-game screen. (the first screen that comes up when tapping on a game)

The news sources selection. GREAT.

the alert sound makes it alot better also, kinda boring (being the default android messaging sound), but it works fine, maybe in the future create your own little jingle, or give us the option to choose our own.

one minor suggestion... can we get our favorite teams highlighted in the standings??? im not sure how hard that would be if at all possible.

I love the new look of the UI. I am looking forward to the audio alerts, although eventually I would like to pick my own sound.

This app is really coming along. Already it is one of the best available, and once the widget is added it will be the best hands down.

Add in the great developer support and all the planned improvements already and this is going to be one of the best apps period for Android!

Maybe down the road for several months out, have you though about adding in fantasy football support at least for yahoo to truly make this an all in one app?

I've actually been working on that screen (I call it Game Details) for NFL for the last few weeks but it got put on hold when the GPS bug appeared. The new screen looks AWESOME you're gonna love it.

Unfortunately the standings screen is a webview. That means we just load up a web page served by a web server tailored specifically for our app. It's a lot easier to develop but the down side is that I'm unable to customize it.

I WISH! I really would like to integrate a fantasy football feature into it, but Yahoo already has a Fantasy Football app for Android so I don't think they'd let me spend the time on it.
