Im running on Wi-fi when the alerts start coming through (im in the UK so games don't start until atleast midnight our time), so I don't think the data connection can be the problem. I'll set alerts for a few teams today and see what does (or doesn't) come thorugh, then get back to you. I can defintely tell you that so far, the alerts haven't missed a single Lakers game though.

I'll try and setup Alerts for a few other sports too, if that will help you out?
 
Yes, I get other notifications. Yes, I've gone into the app, but after that I still don't get notifications. Remember, the widget is staying updated, so I don't think it's an issue with the app closing.

My experience has been pretty consistent of late. Seems like I get the first update and then nothing after that. I can't be the only one seeing this.

My alerts never miss a beat. I wish I could plug your phone into my laptop and see what the error logs are saying...
 
well...like you said, maybe my phone is killing the service or whatever it was. all i know is that now espn alerts are no longer available on sprint...so now im relying heavily on the app. haha well see tonight, as all the phillies, sixers, and flyers all play at the same time.

ill be sure to fill you in after the games.
 
Suggestion for baseball stats section.

Can you include a column for season batting average for hitters and season era for pitchers?


Again tonight, I for the first update and nothing since. Since the widget is updating, doesn't that mean that the reason it's not working isn't because the app is getting purged from memory.
 
okay soooooo. i DID get SOME alerts tonight.

sixers - i only got the beginning of the game. nothing else, i DO have end of quarter and final checked for alerts.

flyers - i got the alerts up until the game was tied 1-1. the they stopped coming. the final was 5-2.

phillies - i got alerts until the score was 6-1 around the 5th inning. then nothing afterwards, final was 7-1.

the widget was right on the dot, updating beautifully. only a minute behind live hockey action. and thats hard to do with hockey. i even left the app open and visible, right on the game details screen. updated perfect through the entire game, so i know the service was not being killed by the OS.

it seemed as if they all stopped working at the same time too. its not like i got one team and not the other. once one stopped, every team stopped.

if theres anything you'd like me to do to help figure it out, id be more than willing to help.
 
Just wanted to put this request in it's own post so it didn't get missed with the notification issues.

I think it would be nice info to have in the boxscore if:
1) It fits somewhere
2) It's actually updated to be accurate as of the previous at bat/inning pitched vs just the start of game.

Not necessarily. They have different OS priorities. Also because each background service is run independently of the app, the OS won't kill both, it will only kill what is needed, which may be one or may be both.

However, I do have two guesses that I'm looking into that may be the cause (neither of them are caused by OS killing the service). 1. is we call a different data endpoint for alerts than we do for widget. So the alerts data endpoint may be faulty. 2. the throttling mechanism (slow down when no games in progress and speed up when games are coming soon or in progress) for alerts is more complex than widget. I suspect there may be some cases that are causing the alerts to throttle off when it shouldn't causing alerts to be delayed and skipped in some cases. I'm still looking into it.

I added this to our suggestion box.

FYI - when things go into the suggestion box, I bring them up during our meetings and while nothing is rejected, everything is prioritized. We've got some stuff on the way for NFL and like I said in my previous post, I'm picking through Alerts code, and there's a few other things in the works such as facebook integration, but there are definitely some items in the suggestion box that we want to get to soon.
 
Tonight, I ... again ... recieved every alert until the end of the 2nd period of the Flyers game. Then, NOTHING!

One thing I've noticed, its always around 8:30 PM (Eastern Time) that I stop recieving alerts and then I don't get anymore after that. I'm not sure if that has to do with code or whatever you were talking about earlier in a post.

The reason why I say this is because the other day the Phillies played an afternoon game and I recieved every single alert.

Hope it helps, as I am REALLY going to need alerts heading into the NHL playoffs, sportstap is simply just rediculously unreliable. :/
 
I'm not watching as closely as flyerskid, but that sound about what I'm seeing as well.

Got all the met updates yesterday for their 4pm start, but knicks updates for their 8pm game stopped in the 2nd quarter.

I really hope you guys can figure this out soon. At some point soon, I'm going to have to switch to an app that updates reliably.
 
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this thread. Im still not getting any Orlando Magic updates in the NBA but all the Lakers alerts seem to work, I guess it could be to do with start/end times as others have mentioned but i'd not considered it.

I tried to set as many alerts as I could the other day for NBA games and whilst I can't remember exactly, I definitely remember that they didn't all work, some were very hit or miss and some didn't come through at all. I'll try and be more specific in the future to help out a bit more
 
Mets game during the day updated perfectly. Knicks game at night updated in the second quarter, then nothing. Updates stopped sound 8:30.

Are you guys on this? It seems like this should be something relatively easy to find since multiple people have the issue and it's able to be replicated.

Last night I set the following alerts for the NBA:

Game End: Magic [x]
Game End: Lakers [x]
Qtr Change: Celtics [x] [Got beginning of 2nd, 3rd & 4th]
Game End: Celtics [x]
Game Start: Heat [x]
Game Start: Bobcats [x]
Qtr Change: Bobcats [x] [Got beginning of 2nd, 3rd & 4th]
Game End: Bobcats
Game Start: Knicks [x]
Qtr Change: Knicks [x] [Got beginning of 2nd]
Game Start Hornets [x]
Qtr Change: Hornets [x] [Got beginning of 2nd, 3rd & 4th]

Anything with an [x] by it, means I got the alert and with the Qtr Change alerts, i've put if I got each one. Like Lexluthor said, after the 2nd Quarter of the Knicks I got nothing from that game but curiously I got the Lakers Game End at the correct time

EDIT: Didn't want to double post, just got the 1.5.3 update via the market
 
I was hopeful today's update fixed the issue, but no, updates for the Mets game stopped between 8:00pm and 8:30pm again.

Have you figured out what's going on yet?
 
Yeah I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I set a few alerts last night, like I did yesterday and this is what I got:

Game End: Magic
Qtr Change: Magic [1st, 2nd]
Game Start: Heat [x]
Qtr Change: Heat [2nd]
Game Start: Mavs
Game End: Mavs [x]
Game End: Thunder [x]
Qtr Change: Thunder

Same as before, x's mean I got them and i've put which quarter's came through. So quite a lot didn't come through last night.

If this doesn't help you guys then i'll stop doing it :) I don't want to add anymore stress to the situation than you're probably already under haha

There is only ever one notification per game. So a newer notification will overwrite the older one, so it may look like one was skipped. Another possibility could be that the app was unable to get data for awhile and the notifications were skipped then when it got data, it just moved on to the current notification.

Unfortunately the system isn't perfect.

We are still looking into some possible data issues, but we're spread kinda thin - also trying to get some NFL Draft stuff out for you guys.
 
i know it's not your guys' fault and you're looking for the problem, but I've got to be honest ... I'm very VERY disappointed in the alerts.

I know ScoreMobile is working on push alerts, and they're realllly close to getting them out as I'm told. I really hope you guys can put your finger on the problem because this sucks that I'm missing out on the NHL / NBA playoffs while I'm at work and such.
 
I would like to see scoring stats for NHL like points, goals, assists, etc..
Also to have nhl standings for the east and west and not just by division, so you can see who's actually going to make the playoffs

Agreed. Alerts stop after about 8:30pm every night for weeks now and doesn't sound like there is a fix coming. Had high hopes for this but it's getting to be time to move on to something else.
