Agreed. Alerts stop after about 8:30pm every night for weeks now and doesn't sound like there is a fix coming. Had high hopes for this but it's getting to be time to move on to something else.

ehh, I'm sure they'll come up with a fix eventually. They're great developers. It's just one of those things that take time to figure out. Unfortuantely for us, this is the time of year for sports that we'd probably most like to have them.

I do have a question though. Is the MLS supposed to have alerts?? I never get them, whatsoever. I realize there are other sports that have alert settings also, but I wasnt sure. Just curious is all.

If there was a bug on our side, I could see possibly 9pm if you were on the east coast or something like that. Like if at 12pm ET it was considered tomorrow to my 9pm PT and then the alerts would think it was the wrong day or some nonesensy bugishness, but 830 doesn't make any sense.

YOU KNOW... there is a feature on android phones that allow them to disable background data after certain times. My phone came default with background data set to be disabled after 9pm. So maybe its something like that?

As for alerts bugs in general, I've mentioned it up the chain and I'll be spending some serious time on Alerts right after this next NFL Draft release.

No alerts support yet for MLS. Our Soccer data isn't very good, especially Futbol.

No, I never have data turn off. Battery is set to performance mode.

Flyerskid is seeing the same thing as me. I'd be very surprised if the issue was something related to my setup.

Do you really have no idea at all what the problem is? Again today updates for the mets game stopped around 8:30. Tonight I also had google scoreboard running and I got updates correctly the whole game.

I must admit I'm very disappointed.

The go team is also catching up fast. The make a great suite of apps, so I'm sure their score app will be first rate before long.

If you guys don't get back on the ball soon, it's going to be too late.

Yeah, I've got EVERYONE in the office subscribing to these alerts and they seem to be spot on.

It's extremely difficult to fix a problem you can't see. I know others have experienced alerts issues as well, but can't get it to break on any of the devices I'm testing with.

What time zone are you in?

Wow, but I'm also not the only one with the problem. I'm in ET as is flyerskid. It happens every single time for the past month or so. No updates after around 8:30. Is there anything I can test or data points I can provide? Mets have a night game tonight. Can you set alerts on if and nite what alerts you get and we can compare?

I don't see how this could be localized to my phone.

Im in the UK and still getting odd Alert patterns. For example on Tuesday (Wednesday night morning for me) I didn't get any of the alerts for the Orlando Magic game (Tip was 12.30am GMT, which is 7.30pm Eastern...I think) but I did get every alert that I setup for the Laker game on Wednesday (Tip was 3.30am GMT, which is 10.30pm Easter?)

I have an HTC Desire. Is there anything I can do or provide to give you guys a hand?

I don't think you're the only one with this problem, I was just saying that I haven't been able to reproduce it. First theory that comes to mind is timezone. Everyone I work with is in pacific time and it works for us.

Tonight, I will subscribe to all the alerts for the Mets game on two phones. One phone will have its timezone set to PT and the other will be ET and we'll see what happens.

Sorry, I never meant to imply this was just your problem and I promise you, we are looking into it.

I in PST also and my baseball alerts are working fine. I did have some problems with alerts during the NCAA tournament, but other than that everything has been working fine.

Yeah we had some server issues during that time, but this is fixed.

There are also some other know problems around delayed, postponed, and rescheduled games but these certainly aren't every night at 830.

We changed the way we store time on the server about a month ago, so I'm crossing my fingers on this timezone idea.

I know you said something about getting true Push Alerts soon. Is this WAYSSS away or just a month or two?

And also, I'm confident you guys will find the problem with the alerts. You guys are great as far as feedback goes. It makes sense with the time zones though. That's what I orginally thought, but I wasn't too sure about how everything works. I just use the product, not develope it. :)

Thanks dude, I appreciate it.
We are working hard, but sometimes the higher-ups dictate priorities that don't always run parallel to the developers or the fans.

As for push notifications, I can't say its just a month or two. We've started talking about it with a more serious tone, but no work has been done for this. The issue we must tackle prior to push notif is, only android 2.2+ devices can use it. So what do we do for our Android 1.6 & 2.1 users (we don't want to abandon them).

In reality, once we get cooking, it would probably be a month or two before you see push notifications in action, but I can't say when thats going to start - hopefully soon!

By any chance, is your app installed to SD card? I'm just trying to reproduce your case as closely as possible.

No, it's installed to internal memory. Also, I noted that the widget does continue to update.

Lets see what happens tonight. I do appreciate you here and am happy to help. Id just like this to work again.

A few things I had forgotten to mention .....

Have you ever thought about having beta-testers for the application before you actually put the release out on the market???? This way you have a few more phones to test it out on (i remember a post earlier that you don't have as many phones to test as you'd like) ANDD it helps to keep guys like lexluthor, myself (and all the others here in the forum) to play more of a role in the development of the app. (and also problems wouldn't be as widespread to the public, therefore helping you're marketplace status be as close to #1 as possible)

And also, this one might go hand-in-hand with my other question... Is there a way that we can get the error-logs from our phones to you????? this way we can help you out if you can't reproduce a problem.

AGAIN, i have no idea how the development of an app works, so dont shoot me if i sound stupid. haha just more than willing to help you guys out if you guys are unable to reproduce anything that we are getting.

For the mets, I got the start of game and 1-0 updates. Didn't get the 2-0 update around 8:20 or the 4-0 update around 8:28.

What did you get?

I'm still getting updates. It's 8:50 according to my phone (Droid X) and I'm set to Eastern Time. Oh! Just got another one, Top of the 6th 6-0 @ 8:51pm.

With the way the polling system works, its inevitable that some alerts will be missed every once in awhile. It's not meant to be compared to a TV or a radio.

I'm more concerned with, are you still getting alerts after 8:30-ish.

Let me know, mine is going strong and I've got others in the office setup with similar configs and theirs are going too. Not saying its just you, but I'm just trying to narrow this down.

Wow, crazy. Nothing since the 1-0 update. I have google scoreboard running too and I'm getting those updates for the mets game.

I guess this is going to prove very tricky to figure out then.

No idea what else to try here.

FWIW, the widget shows 6-1 mets now.

okay. this is going to sound completely WACKED!

i took it upon myself to change my phone to pacific time when i got off of work. just to see if it would change anything. at first, i got nothing at all. i restarted the app and everything, ran it refreshed it, still nothing.

BUTT, then i changed it back to ET time at about 930 and now all of a sudden, RIGHT after I did that, I received alerts. Its 10:30 ET time and i actually JUST recieved an alert of the phillies game 2-0. and just now that the sixers game is a final.

its weird though, because my phone time says 10:43 PM, but on the pull down screen, next to the livescores notification it says 7:43 PM, which is still in PT time??

Yeah the app will remember your timezone as long as the app is active. you might have to do a force stop and then go into the app again to update the timezone.

Make a premium paid app that uses push notifications, I would definitely buy it, then have the free app continue with the current notifications.

Or... just abandon them until they get a new phone, that is what I would do, but a lot of people tell me I can be an a-hole at times

Both suggestions make a lot of sense, but we definitely can't abandon our users. There's a lot of people not up to 2.1 yet.
